Dunning-kruger in full effect.

Why do people who are beginners always seem to insist that they are good teachers? 99% of the time their advice is terrible and misleading.

Fuck off with your shitty reddit thread.

Well, it's true, right? We're not all trying to be professionals and if I draw anime stuff then what's the problem? I think it's good. Besides, all you guys do is act negative towards us and never actually create art. Yeah, you make a pretty looking study of some hands but you never make an awesome comic or real art.

but it's pretty bad advice towards beginners
if you see those anti-improvement threads you'll see that they never improve because anime is all they will draw. Or take it from me, I kept drawing anime thinking "I don't need the sticky, I'll just practice from refs! What's this "symbol drawing" bullshit anyways?". And I barely improved. However, this year I managed to get better ten folds by actually practicing, drawing from life, and doing studies and such.

>we're not all trying to be pros
that's fine but it would be weird to show your doodle of kimiko-chan when your friends ask for your pictures. What I'm saying is to not suck at your hobby, more or so you should have fun but you gotta learn too.

people told me all the things i needed to know, i just wish i had listened at the time instead of rediscovering them all on my own. :/

none of my things are as stupid as that list though.

it should be called "15 ways i had to talk myself into drawing because i really don't want to draw, i just want to pretend to draw and i'm too much of coward to cheat like i should."

Nah, clients always want your best work. Seems to me that you suck at art and your lineart is slighty less terrible than your paintings. Which is quite common with beginners actually. For some reason they always value paintings higher than drawings even when the painting is really fucking bad.

>> No.1949837

The only one I don't agree with is #4. In the beginning especially, tracing can really help build up muscle control and memory, and line confidence, and it can help you analyze how people use lines to describe forms. Even if you just trace over something you've drawn yourself, you can get those same benefits and start to find ways to simplify a drawing. The pintrest stuff I don't know anything about but I'd say I agree with the rest of it, pretty much.

>DO NOT ask your favorite artist,"how to draw," or ,"how to draw the thing?". SEND THEM some of you art (doesn't matter how bad it is), ask them to look at it, to offer an opinion, and ask for critique. Professionals love it when you show them you're not just all talk, that you actually try and work at it. They were in your shoes once, and know what it feels like to be a rookie. They'll help you if they can, but they're usually busy so don't hassle 'em

Don't be afraid to experiment with personal pieces, man. It will help you remind yourself why you're doing this is the first place. Plus, something big and eyecatching in your portfolios might lead to a few different commissions too.
