By being so good at something mundane, yet 'in your hands' (as in you are the creator and designer of it) that you are growing bored of it.

The more adept and bored you are, the more likely your mind will wander to play with your mastered skillset.

i totally agree with this,i wlawys found i had my best ideas while i was in class because im bored. btw OP, if you're really into practicing drawing, I recomend reading creative illustration by Andrew Lommis, its a great book that helps you see things in different ways, like try starting a sketch just using letters of the alphabet and see where it goes.

Think of something cliche.

Now take that cliche and try to do it in a way that no one has ever done before.

For example, let's go /tg/ and make a Necromancer character for a game. What is he gonna use? Probably zombies and skeletons, right?

What about other dead things?
~A monstrous cloud made of the collected ash of thousands of cremated people.
~Wooden furniture, house and paper, all the products of slain trees.
~Mounted animal heads and stuffed trophies reanimated to be guardians of your lair?
~Meat.
~Dinosaur bones.

All of these could be possible minions of the necromantic arts.

Just think outside the box, or maybe think" "How could I do this better or differently?"
