>> No.1944701

if your work is so good that you think the signature ruins it stop signing.

>> No.1944758

>>1944701

my works are not "so good" but still I'm making some extra money by selling them. And I always sing the works I sell because it is what keeps them connected to me, also againts disclaimers.

>>1944700
I dont sign skethes if you mean that.

>> No.1944767

signing your work is looked down on /ic/ but it's a really good thing if you want to get recognition.
however signing your study of another artist's painting... is wrong. it's misleading to people who don't know the original. it should be common sense, so if you do it anyway on purpose or out of pure ignorance, like firez, then you deserve a pitchfork through your ass. his "signature" is also ugly as sin.
outside of that, irregardless of the quality of work, it should be fine and encouraged.

thanks for the solid information.

But Firez always puts down the original artist's name or the source from his reference.

confirmed for dipshit. Also who the fuck said anything about signing a study? OP said he wanted to sign his finished work and wanted advice on bettering his lettering, not what your personal views on signatures were.

OP, if you cant do an aesthetic signature, just go for simplicity. When I sign my paintings I just write my name in capital first letters, and small caps for the rest, tucked away nice and neat in the bottom right corner. It also has the benefit of allowing passerbys to actually be able to read your name.

nope, he does not. at least the last time i saw his work. did he start giving credit? i don't mean in the comments section, but on the actual image?

>>1944819
because quality is subjective. what looks like shit to you might look really nice to others. you're confirmed for close-minded.

Dude I think you guys should stop going around and telling OP that his signature is bad like his signature is good. So please don't say that someone handwriting is awful

Behold, vincent van goghs signature
He didn't even uses his wicked cool sounding surname because he just don't give a shit

chill dude

>> No.1944936

>>1944913
Actually he didn't use his surname because he knew people would fuck it up, which is exactly what happened. The correct pronunciation is closer to "Gawk" than "Go". The more you know...

>> No.1944947

>>1944936
only Americans fuck it up afaik... and that's just pronunciation, not spelling.

>> No.1944951

>>1944936
Actually, the recent study shows the his surname should read "Cock", so that's Vincent Van Cock

This is the way I typically sign my work. Feedback and opinions would be appreciated. I kinda like that it has a sleek look to it, but you can't figure out my name by looking at it which I think could be a bad thing.

I'm probably gonna design a logo and just paste it into my artwork.

Gawk is not very close to how it's supposed to be pronounced either. Most other western languages don't have the troathy g sound that Dutch has so I dunno how to explain it.

Its both easy to forge and illegible, and doesn't really look like a signature... I'm not a fan

Signing your work is fine, but a good sign that the artist is amateur fucking shit is one of those big swooshy signatures jumping out to the left of the "hot babe's" thigh: JOHN SMITH---------- 01-16-2015!
