how do I start stylizing my own characters, /ic/? Every time I try, I get so consumed in all the anatomy I've been teaching myself that I just end up with something proportioned and realistic. I want to draw some fucking cartoons.

Post your work.

I know the feel, OP. I want to draw comicbook style art.

Maybe just study how your fav comic/cartoon style artists stylise things?
You can make a Toriyama study like you'd do for a painter.

you have to learn to let go of your earthly tether.

What is "comicbook style"? Most Marvel or DC comics for example are kept rather realistic apart from slightly exaggerated muscles.

That plus detailed ink work, I guess.

Focus on construction over anatomy?

>> No.1940847

Cartooning is 90% proportions. Draw your skeletons with the cartoony proportions you want, then fill in the details.

Learning how to stylize well is as big a job as learning to draw realistically. Don't expect to know anatomy and magically be able to produce amazing cartoons.

In that case is good to do what >>1940784 suggested?
Pick a couple artists I like and try to break down what they did?

So, if I wanted to draw/render like Wes Burt, I should just copy him?

master of styling here, I will just say that you need to learn to design your forms and be aware of every line you make.

master of styling here again, I will teach you first hand then.

draw me an upper arm include the deltoid as well, doesn't have to be complicated, front view is fine, just draw how you draw naturally.

is this alright for the demonstration? It was just sort of a quick doodle between cooking and housework that I was trying to get done

good good, now to understand 2 things I said earlier.

first is the designing of forms, if you look at the way you draw deltoid it is very smooth starting from the acromion is drawn in one fell swoop to the insertion in arm this but look at bridgman's deltoid >>1940939 it is not one fell swoop but there's is a bump protrusion marking the most protrude portion of the deltoid right before it inserts into upper arm. which makes yours look like the first 2 pic and bridgman the right pic style wise.

also the way you draw pecs you make the forms straight.

forgot the pic

the 2nd is thinking the lines you draw, is it straight? almost straight? curve? very curve? you may not think much but it adds up in the end. if you look at the biceps you draw, it's very convex and can be drawn in one curve line.

now I will ask you to draw again, just the biceps except make it one concave and one convex line to make up the biceps, if you can't get it I'll show you how it's done.

I hope this will clear some confusion. I was just trolling earlier with the master thing hehe. good luck anon.

I think more than anything don't do anything that has to be forced, draw naturally. If you want to begin to shift from something realistic begin to be able to reduce your drawings into their simplest forms, it lends to a easier shift into this style you are fond of

>> No.1941311

There are a few things you can do to improve style.
1. fuck around with some crazy perspectives
2. do caricatures of people while you're out(without them knowing obviously).
3. Tell a story with your character, dont just draw the character for the sake of being there.
Hope that helps a bit.
