If you are a self-employed artist, that is your career. You are basically an entrepreneur. You can have other jobs at the same time, even ones that pay more. But if your art is your passion and you are actively pursuing it, that makes it your career.

As a sidenote, these threads are getting annoying. If you want to talk business take it to /biz/. We're here to improve our art, not figure out how to make money.
