Start in greyscale, don't use a white background, use the hard round brush and a tablet with pressure sensitivity.
Draw at least one hour a day and analyse what you did wrong and good afterwards. Have fun.

do this for at least a week then come back and post in the beginner or draw threads with your work for critiques (dont start a new thread please :] ). also dont make excuses like "this is only my first week drawing" because if youre making excuses you are just hiding your inadequacies instead of focusing on them to bring them up to par or make them your strengths. also people will shit on you if you make excuses which will distract from the actual reason for posting your art: getting advice/critique

It's a great little program.
When you ever switch to Photoshop, you might need time to learn working with the new program, but your knowledge of painting remains (like values, construction, composition, ...).

So yes, because to learn the basics of painting, your medium doesn't matter.
