stop reading hogarth before it's too late. His methods and anatomy are messed up. Hampton, Vilppu, or even Loomis are way better for learning to draw the head.

Right now the perspective of your head is all out of wack. The ear needs to be closer to the middle of the side plane of the head, not as far back as it is now.

I'm not saying don't read Hogarth, but for a foundation he's not the best. Vilppu and Hampton teach good ways of re-creating the forms of the head. Just take time to practice and spruce up your ability in perceiving free-hand perspective and form. Do self-portraits, observe heads from life; everything will be okay, anon.

anon here that said not to read Hogarth. It's obvious to me because I did a bit of reading and drawing from Hogarth's Head book about 2 years ago. The way he draws the face is quite distinct. Also, I've known Marko to praise Hogarth, so there's that too. I was almost afraid that I'd be wrong and I'd look like a dick, haha.

I know that Marko studied Hogarth, that's why I brought him up, haha. But that's unimportant, because there are plenty of people with opinions on Hogarth. I've brought this up before on /ic/, but Hogarth couldn't consistently draw the head for shit. Throughout the book he made amateur mistakes, like making the head too big. But the beginner or intermediate artist might think it's still right, when it's not. So I would recommend it to an advanced student who is interested in Hogarth's intricacies in drawing, and not for the act of learning to draw.
