>The biggest problem with current anatomy books is the creative disadvantage of having only one artist who is trying to appeal to the broadest market possible. Popular or experimental anatomy is too risky to publish using this model. This diminishes the concept of inventive design

The whole point of these books is to teach you anatomy. You are suppossed to ignore the style as the artist's style is merely the medium he uses to teach you the fundamentals of human anatomy. They are saying that these anatomy books are purposely stylised to appeal to an audience while in reality the stylisation is completely irrelevant. So now their solution is to throw as many stylisations at you as possible. LOL.
Sure, many of these artists are great and it may be a nice preview of each artist's work but you are not gonna learn correct human anatomy by looking at 600 different stylisations...

It's like they intentionally miss the point of their own book to sell it as something that it isn't.

>He explained to us why the sculpts based on his drawings were so appealing. "sculpting and drawing is the same - it's all about the silhouette. Details and realism are secondary, they only get in the way; the silhouette is what really matters." It was a revelation!

whh? 'silhouette is the most important' is pretty much the first thing written in any character design book.

>It became evident in the early stages of research that well-drawn examples of neutral anatomy turnarounds like Loomis's were rare and difficult to find. What we did manage to scrape together was of generally poor quality. What we became aware of instead, browsing hundreds of art blogs, was the huge number of brilliant artists out there. But even among their work there were few examples of neutral anatomy turnarounds. We then understood why so many amateur sculptors and 3D artists were having a difficult time making unique figures - a lack of well-drawn reference art.

...you learn to draw. that's your reference art. if an artist can't visually take a 3/4 character view from another artist and figure out how to put it in front/back/side turnaround, they obviously don't know what they're doing re drawing and volume in the first place.

is that the target audience for this book? amateur sculptors who hate drawing and are sick of modelling from loomis?(has anyone ever actually modelled from loomis?)

You have all the "free" *wink wink* stuff you can download, and you feel like you're entitled to everything?

We don't want to perfectly scan James's book because 1) I sure as hell am not ripping my book up, 2) it takes away time from me (you aren't paying me to scan it) and 3) their books are so useful they deserved to not be instantly uploaded. it's one of those very general books, so it just brushes you up on the basics and doesn't really go in depth. for example chapter one has basic pencil technique, then they introduce the basics of the different types of perspective, landscape drawing, some stuff about proportion, anatomy, elements of design, lighting, composition, shape theory...in just quick little gobbets, then moves onto the next topic.
the main thing that sets the book apart is its use of video game characters as to demonstrate the principle. for example they point out how GlaDOS's cables contribute to the feeling of tension/weight in her Portal 2 design. but, again, a lot of it is more geared for the beginner. 'mario's design is circles and wario's is triangles, and circles are friendly etc'
It's not a bad book, it knows what to pay homage to considering there are reproductions of Loomis and Schiele and other culturally significant artists used as examples, with instructions to try a study of them. and certainly with today's argument that videogames can never be considered art it is nice to have a book that juxtaposes Degas and Journey re shape language. But it is at heart a beginner's book, probably make a great christmas present to the 'i wanna make videogames' noob who doesn't know a thing about art or art history. if that isn't you, getting a selection of books that go in depth on the subjects, and then reading 'art of' books, listening to developer's commentary and playing a videogame and taking notes on what it does and why that works is a far more fruitful exercise than getting this book.

Are you honestly that much of an imbecile to not even realize how you're giving them money? That place had about 50k visits last time I checked, how many of those people have adflyed his shit? do the math, so it's not a fortune but it's money that isn't going anywhere but his pocket. These threads started for a reason, some people are really hurting and they literally cannot pay for their bread consistently let alone spend like 30 bucks on ART RESOURCES. These threads were started to reach out and help out these people, but the mexican fuckface who made the tumblr decided to jew it all up and just post shit you could find easily with 1 google search. We agreed that if something gets requested multiple times he will buy it, and because every newfriend that comes on this board doesn't know anything about art his immediate thought is to get brushes, so it piled up and he was forced to buy that shitty Kyle's brushpack or whatever. Thx OP, money down the drain, meanwhile more than 20 people request three books that are mentioned all the time and nobody gives a shit. You can literally see some of the 'overlooked' discussions in the previous threads where this shithead straight up ignores all of the posts, especially the posts regarding people messaging him on tumblr. I stopped following whatever it was he was doing but I believe he also bought a couple of anatomy books, in spanish, how fucking convenient, you can keep'em OP. This was a terrible fucking idea and I hope it never surfaces again.

Even if there are 50k visits that does not necesarily mean that those people do not use adblock. Pic related, it says $15. How many art books can I buy with that? And I wasn't forced to do shit, I wanted to buy those brushes and many anons agreed.
If it's so easy to make money on the internet then fucking do it, I didn't buy a single spanish book because it would be useless, the one I scanned was one I owned from some time ago. Maybe if you had actually gone through the threads then you'd have realised that adfly does not work unless someone:
1) pauses adblock
2) spends at least 10 seconds on that page
so even if the fucking "link here" thing appears I don't get a cent.
And does it even matter that I'm receiving CENTS for a click? Is it your money? Is it your mom's money? It's fucking internet money that I can't physically have because I have no credit card and so I can't turn it into actual bills. Amazon does not accept paypal and if I buy with my debit card then it will take over a month to get here AND I'll have to pay a fee that's three times what the book is worth. That's why I am looking for sites where I can buy with paypal AND get a digital copy of a book, not the physical one.
I also wrote on the FAQ in tumblr that I do not respond to anons requesting books but that I DO write down the names. I have a list of over 70 books to find and I'm still looking for them .
And I also have a life of my own.

>How is clicking a fucking link giving someone your own money?
Re: your own money

The question isn't asking about him making money, it's inquiring how we are all spending money by going through adfly.

You're ass ravaged for no good reason. If OP stops investing in useful shit people will just stop following the links. He's also certainly not making bank off of stupid adfly walls.

i've spent more time compiling folders, reference hoarding, and uploading shit for /ic/ than drawing for the last few days, so i think i might understand that feel a little.

pick up the pencil mang, even if it's just like 30 mins a day it's a start at least.

why don't you just create a torrent, or something.
You seem to have a pretty good upload pipe to kick it off too.

or an irc bot.

or something else that can be mirrored by other anons.

If you had read the threads you'd know that the only time I can upload books is at 2-4am because 3rd world country internet connection. If I could've made a torrent I would have done it ages ago. Besides, I'd have to remake it over and over again every time I add something new. It's just a complete bother.

>> No.1880977

>>1880971
That's why I suggested the irc bot as well.
If with enough anons (with decent interbutts) behind the cause mirroring it to each other would make it easy.

but it would require to be online all the time, so there's that.
