I'm embarking on a mission to learn calligraphy today. I want to learn how to write artfully and beautifully, but I feel like this will also help improve my quality of line by leaps and bounds.

I think that would be getting a bit too in depth, I frankly don't have the time. I'm only seeking how to write more fluently and elegantly, I'm not learning how to develop several of my own type faces and all that, I'm just learning italic scripts is all.

How so? I mean I'm essentially just practicing drawing straight and contoured lines as cleanly as possible, they just happen to be in the shape of letters.

Here's my hour or so of progress working through this book, nothing too pretty.

Pick this up, its a great reference for multiple alphabets and includes a fairly good abridged version of what >>1795053 is talking about.

You dont NEED to know the history but it always helps to know where you're pulling letter forms from.
