how do you guys turn off?

like right now my wrist is fucked and i'm losing my mind not drawing. but even before this, whenever i've tried to take days off, everything just feels wrong.

The one time my wrist was messed up I just picked up a felt tip with my left hand and kept on going. As for actually taking a day off, I never do, but I've had days where I just put down 1 30 second gesture and chill. Why stop doing what you love?

>wrist is fucked
I just draw with my other hand when that happens.

Fucked up wrist is just an excuse. Everything feels wrong to you, because you know that you're just lazy. Have you heard about Lefty?

>> No.1774485

For moments where I can't draw I tend to close my eyes and try to imagine different poses and angles in 3D space, and try to see them in motion, visualise the muscles working in tandem.

If you REALLY need to put a mark on paper, then use your other hand to sketch. Or just dab some paint on your finger and use that without moving your wrist. Or just draw slowly using your dominant hand. Take your time, it's not a race.

It's not hard to find a compromise. You just need to get off your ass and find alternatives.

Ignoring pain in your body when it is coming from a certain activity is the dumbest thing you can possibly do. It's not a sign of having a strong work ethic, it's just a sign of being an idiot. Analyze why your wrist starts hurting. Learn to draw without using your wrist too much, do stretching exercises, take a week off and see if it gets better. Being a wannabe hardass is not worth developing a serious case of carpal tunnel or tendonitis, that could forever gimp your drawing ability.

>>1774488
Carpal tunnel is not the fucking flu, you can't get it overnight. Address the problems that are causing it before you fuck up your hand beyond repair. If Lefty never fixed the root of the problem (most likely bad drawing technique from the wrist) then chances are very high he will develop carpal tunnel in his left hand as well.

>Wrist hurting

Stop being a fucking amateur and learn to draw from the elbow and shoulder.

lol fuck off

>> No.1774539

oh fuck, this fucking carpal tunnel meme is back.
incoming wave of parroting tards trying to scare you with ct and telling to draw from elbow and shoulder. the funniest thing is, they don't even know how to draw but try to give advice anyway.

I paint 12 hours a day, every day of the week.

CT sucks. Just get a wrist brace and wear it while you sleep (not while ya work). Take a break every 30 minutes for your eyes, wrists, and legs.

Take some painkillers if it hurts too much.

Probably going to hurt your whole life but the shit above is the least you can do to help.

to add I was tested with electromyogram and for hand strength. Seriously, I have like no hand strength at all. My grip is pathetic.

Either get steroid injections or surgery but haven't done either yet. Sounds like both are just temporary and the surgery would at least put me out of work for a week.

I've painted long hours over the last 3 years and have had no pain. But then again I maintain physical health through strength training

i highly doubt anyone could be retarded enough to get carpal tunnel in both of their hands

I know that feel, man. I used to paint 10-15 hours a day and literally just recovered a 3 month hiatus for a nerve related injury similar to carpel tunnel. For the first month I painted with my left hand and then that went to shit too, I had to go to the hospital to get steroids injected into my wrist and now I can paint again. Mind telling me exactly what's wrong with your wrist?

Just read and doodle with your left hand for now. Maybe focus on shapes and color over line stuff. Don't worry OP, it happens to everyone at least once.

you draw big, draw with elbow and shoulder, otherwise you are slowly damaging your wrist. it's not that hard to comprehend.
the sad thing is some of you dipshits are so casual that you don't even have to worry about the possibility of it. i wouldn't either if i drew once every three days.
>lel le epic meme XD
i can even think of a good practical example for this: hatching and cross hatching. you are simply dumb if you crosshatch with your wrist.
please don't ever post anything on /ic/ ever again.

Mine wasn't due to bad technique with painting btw. It was months of lifting the wrong way, the nerve at the base of my thumbs were worn out and painting long hours aggroed the shit out of them.

I kind of doubt this whole "I can't turn off woe is me artist" bullshit considering 99% of the stuff posted here is absolute garbage. In any case I found that my wrist pain when I first started largely came from the pressure sensitivity I was using. I made it so I only have to glide across my tablet and my wrist pain went away.
