Picasso's cubism is nothing more than a necessary but disgusting stain in art history. He literally just did it to make money simply without an effort. He knew that at that time no one had a real understanding of what was art anymore and everyone would look at any piece of shit on canvas and nod in agreeance that it is art. No one was bold enough to break that bandwagon and go, "dude this looks like shit" for fear they would be called out for "not understanding what art was"...

Tasteless scum of what is sadly considered "good"

>> No.1760916

>>1760849
Dude, les demoiselles de Avignon (his first step toward cubism, considered proto-cubist), was dissed even by his artists friends, so he turned it toward the wall and forgot about it for some time.

It was also a seminal piece in not only the development of cubism, but of modernism. You act like the art world was already saturated with art that is this avant garde, so he was able to fleece the public with his work, but in actuality his style was so radical that even other modern artists weren't ready for it.
>no one was bold enough to say "this looks like shit"
Except for some of the first people to see his work, when it was still in his fucking studio

Picasso also was a fraud, daddy made his first paintings for little picasso to have a reputation to ride on and never mastered naturalism.
Cubism was interesting as a concept but the execution was fucking retarded, only a handful of paintings stand out, and that's only when you look at them from a considerable distance.
Then he "painted like a child", omfg so illuminati, reached nirvana, true master.

>citation needed
Yeah, because picasso would say or let people know something that would destroy his reputation, we all see the inconsistency on his entire career, and even though>>1760849 doesn't have his facts right, the "no one was bold enough to say "this looks like shit"" is true.
Remember the golden rule about abstract shitz, if you are a nobody, your stuff is "amateur-ish" at best, if you are somebody your art is remarkably astounding and worth a lot of money, picasso was a somebody from day one, he was just making time to pull out the "u kno i'm bored with real, im trascended master lol" and hide his true habilities.

I like you. Inb4 every pretentious windbag piles on to tell you that you're "ignorant" or that you "don't understand art." Oh wait, it's already started.

I've never met a good artist who liked Picasso. Not even once. He seems to be entirely the purview of shitty art-teachers in shitty schools, rich people who think they can buy taste, and the know-nothing public who invariably name him as the greatest artist in history. That's the power of marketing, which was Picasso's real talent.

like if i suddenly magically were given the highest skill level possible to a human, what would i do with myself? i'd have nothing left to strive for and fifty years from now would be an old hermit humphing away to myself and hoping to never see another painting again because i could never break out of my funk of eternal inevitable stagnation.

look at the way the fucker painted diogenes, thats the real obscenity here. what a poor, pathetic soul he was! (and besides a few tufts of unruly hair, clean as a whistle!)

but let's not deviate from the One True Way. let's stick to Sargeant. christ he's a good painter, excellent even, but he's not an artist.

The fact that so many books still name Picasso "the greatest or most significant or most influential" artist ever only tells you how far painting still is from becoming a serious art. Sculpture critics have long recognized that the greatest sculptors of all times are Michelangelo and Thutmose, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Woodblock critics rank the highly controversial Hokusai over classical printers who were highly popular in courts around Asaia. Painting critics are still blinded by commercial success: Picasso sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Sculpture critics grow up looking at a lot of sculptures of the past, woodblock critics grow up looking at a lot of prints of the past. Painting critics are often totally ignorant of the paintings of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that Picasso did anything worth of being saved.

This is about skill and technical proficiency, not artistic merit. I don't think even stuffy art critics would claim Picasso was a master painter, not that the opinion of art critics are worth two pinches of billy-goat shit.

You don't read much art criticism, and probably aren't familiar with his early work or aware of how avant garde and influential his later work became. He proved he could paint proficiently by 14, after that he was all about charting new territory.
