Anime/Manga/Cartooning Thread

"No matter how much you know of anatomy and the construction of the figure, you will not be able to draw figures form imagination until you can relate the different parts of the figure to a horizon."

Previous Thread: >>1750976

A general message to aspiring artists: "Lack of knowledge can be greater torture than the effort of acquiring it. When all is said and done, nature is your best instructor."

Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, have fun.

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make stylized work in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

I am drawing and consuming hentai on a daily basis and i have to tell you that if you have at least some taste this is not the case.
The first thing that got my attention and ruined everything was the vagina placemand and overall drawing of it, in manga they usually
play perspective tricks to make the penetration point the focal point, but this is not an excuse for wrong anatomy, you are basically saying
that if others make the same mistake as him its ok for him to do as well, if it is for stylistic purposes to make it look more appealing than
it has a point, but this vagina is anything but appealing.

>> No.1756976

>>1756972

It looks like you're mistaking the fabric folds as her back which caused you draw her much more bulky than she really is. Her entire figure's off at this point. It's hard to tell with that tiny ref but the top of the left leg should also have a slight curve to it and in your version it's just straight up like a trunk so it looks very awkward given the direction of her pelvis. Eyes are a bit far apart and her trapezius is starting off a bit too high, either that or drawing it with a more inward curve would make it look less bulky. Try getting a more hi res ref next time.

At first glance it looked pretty good, but upon closer inspection the neck is really long, her(?) trapezius muscles are quite large, and the eyes are positioned way too low and also lack depth.

Overall, I think the neck and head could/should be shifted a bit downward to match the positioning and placement of the torso. I would also say you're hiding hands, but the image lacks context so that can be overlooked for now.

I don't like it at all, it's not because of a blatant technical mistake reather than the stylization choice.
Stylization is supposed to make characters better looking or more characteristic, your is just an uncanny

was if it wasn't for the outfit and the filename.

It's technically good as a stand alone piece, but if you were going for any kind of facial likelihood you didn't
catch it, she has a baby face and not in a good way, she literally looks like an overgrown infant.
I don't know what reference you use for her face, but if you are going to draw an already pretty young girl
and forced her anime proportions which will make her even more younger things like that will happen.
You can catch likelihood with even more simple stylization, like this example i searched fore arya drawings
and this one gives me a lot more likelihood than yours, even if yours is more detailed.

What he said >>1758155 .

There are plenty of examples of you not drawing forms, but a skewed flat cutout instead. You have guidelines, so use them. Modify them. Add to them if you have to.

Case in point, look at the girl on the left. Her raised thigh is coming forward, but it still looks to be contained within that thin rectangular prism that contains the rest of the body.

Instead of just having a base block, construct all of the major body masses from basic forms. 2 cylinders to make an arm. 2 boxes to make the torso. Cylinder for the neck. 2 cylinders to make a leg. a box for the head, a box for the hand, a box for the foot. Draw all of these forms in perspective. Once they're in place, convert them into the more complex but anatomically accurate forms.

Here is my take on it. The main problem I thought was that the top of the hips seemed to be going back but then the bottom was facing front, but you fixed that somewhat. There's still a bunch of problems with the lower half though, (in mine too most likely). You're clearly pretty good at drawing so you should be able to correct it all by looking up a bit of lower body construction, which would be more helpful to you than me pretending to know more than I actually know ;_;

Aside from that something I would personally recommend is trying to avoid having arms perpendicular to the camera. You can get away with one but when it's both it sorts of flattens your figure. even moving it back or forth slightly should help.

Still looks largely the same. The boxes used within the torso and the hips look like they were added after the fact, when they should be there first. For example, they fit too nicely into your established drawing, and the boxes have the wrong proportions as a result (your pelvis boxes are too narrow and aren't positioned where the pelvis is). Don't be fooled by what you've already put down, and instead try to build up everything from scratch.

Here's what you can do: buy a quality anime figurine, one with a standing pose where you can see most of the body from any angle and the proportions look like whatever style you're trying to emulate. Use that as a reference on your desk, and draw it from several different angles. The trick is to not just draw the contours, but to mentally break down the complex forms into it's simple base forms and draw that first. Once that's correct, refine it into the complex forms.

If you want to get really serious though, I'd recommend life drawing and studying your Vilppu, Hampton, Bridgman, etc. You have to know the real analogue very well and be very comfortable with drawing and rotating forms before you can do it proficiently in any number of styles.

Now, I have a question: am I not-shit enough to make commissions? (I won't do it on fucking lined paper, of course), and how much do people pay for something like this? should I make a Tumblr to get commissions there, even when I strongly dislike such place? is it difficult to someone with +150 watchers to get commissioned?

I'd really appreciate if you at least scroll through my sketches, dear d/ic/ks. Pic unrelated.

Either the arms need to go back a little more- they look flat like she's intentionally trying to hold her elbows in line with her torso rather than a relaxed hands-on-hips pose, or the hand need to be fixed. You can see the tops of her palms. You shouldn't be able to.

Mikufag, I can always tell a drawing is yours because of your line quality. Are you using a tablet with pressure sensitivity? Try some exercises where you try to draw, say, the hair strands/chunks in one motion so you don't have to go back in and erase. The goal here is to make your lines look like one sweeping motion rather than broken up (ie weak). One of your major problems seems to be "boogers" where you draw and then you go back in and erase but leave so many small dots that it looks even worse, even in your most finished pieces I see small dots. (I'm on UL group btw so I monitor your posts). There is something to be said about craftsmanship, and what you would expect to see in a clean, finished lineart. Granted this piece looks really good compared to some of your other stuff, the lines are still lacking (like at the tips of the hair) and would benefit from being done in one confident motion.

the "neck" starts just at the right place (well, almost). the throat is a little thin, and the jaw is very small, but that's more style than anything.
with a few good adjustments, it would look just right. it's not nearly as bad as you're implying it to be.

especially since it's a more promising profile shot that than what i usually see in these shitty threads. at least it doesn't make all the positional/proportional mistakes of not giving the back of the head enough space, the face/jaw being fused with the neck and the ears being too far back.

that being said, furry profiles are easier and this is miku, so it's probably referenced.

Judging by the way that you render Rin's muscles, I feel that you don't actually know anatomy/muscle groups very well. The way you posed her on the beach has a lot of issues with the gesture/skeleton. To be able to stylize well, you have to know these basics before you can simplify them. Your coloring is pretty good, but I feel that you're having trouble rendering form in some places such as the face, arms, and legs (where your lack of anatomy knowledge shows, along with inability to stylize). It becomes really obvious when the torso is so detailed (but incorrect), and the arms, legs, and face have so little definition in comparison.

I suggest studying anatomy and working on your gestures, it will improve your art a shit load. Looking at images of actual muscular women will give you an idea of how to stylize them yourself (rather than trying to copy the way another artist does, and not really understanding why they made the stylistic choices they did in their anatomy). Also looking at anime artists that color realistically should help you with your faces. I can't really think up of any at the top of my head since I don't follow a lot of anime artists, but the way you shade faces makes them look like kigurumi.

For the record dude, props for keep going at it, and you're great with some of these components, but have you ever considered trying out western-style art (comic)? I really think you'd accel at it. You do impressive muscles, but anime (especially moe) is so simple and delicate-looking that no matter how good your faces are, or how well-rendered your muscles are, putting the two together fundamentally won't work. I really think it would be interesting to see how you'd do with a slightly different art style.
