Hey guys, quick question. Is this book any good? Has anyone learned much from this?

A different anon, but to start off, he sold an anatomy book telling people boobs were made of muscle.

I say you roll Michael Hampton's design and invention, it's a far more complete and reliable book than anything Hart has done.

Don't get fooled by the simple and somewhat naive terminology, "Beginner" and "drawing people" are terms intended to lure out ignorant/gut-less people looking for an easy solve or starting point, the thing is that there is no easy start, you just study and practice until you're able to study and practice more advanced stuff, but of course, if you start studying from shit material you will develop shit skills and habits.
Stick to the sticky.

oh boy, some people might come at me again for what i'm about to say but whatever.

learn anatomy before doing anything else, where ?
here: http://www.ikonet.com/fr/sante/corpshumainvirtuel/corpshumainvirtuel.php

there is different layers and views on this one, this for basic knowledge. learn the skeleton first, not that hard, then learn the principal muscles, you can even read about them and WHERE they are attached. this is important.

then, after you feel confident about your knowledge: http://www.zygotebody.com/

use pic related settings, this will give the shape to your knowledge, you already know where muscles are attached, now you will know how.
draw ecorchés, try to master muscle placement around your skeleton.

now start looking at references, don't copy them, anylize them, how the body works, what is a possible angle and what isn't, try to build your skeleton, then muscles to replicate it.

just my 2cents.

Pretty much this.

You could also start with Vilppu's Drawing Manual, since it's a bit more beginner friendly. It covers gesture, basic forms, and all that good shit.

Don't listen to this guy however.

Do not learn anatomy first.
'Grind' observation and perspective until you have them down, and you'll be able to learn everything else (including anatomy) 10x faster because you'll understand it.

this anon is right

for all intents and purposes of structure, it's more important to simplify your anatomy by thinking of shapes and proportions than it is to think that it's made of muscle or fat.

Hampton covers this.

Gesture too, imo, it is more important than anything. It's like having a compass for drawing figures.
