Looking at this particular artist's improvement making me want to quit art. His 3rd day of improvement is better than anything I can produce.

Maybe I was I was learning from the wrong guides/tutorials.

Which tutorial books/videos do you recommend?

he already knew how to draw pretty well, he's obviously just learning how to digitally paint.

no tutorial will help you improve rapidly, they just point you in the right direction. you know what does help you improve rapidly? grinding. i recommend drawing a thing, seeing where you went wrong with your drawing of the thing, correcting it, and drawing the thing with your new knowledge. then do this for all the things. forever. that's my tutorial.

All the people who say how much they improved in a short time omitted that they have drawn since years to sound awesome and cool and not like they drew shit for a decade and are embarassed about it. The more they pose the worse they probably are.

If you want to talk about improvement that makes you want to quit, then this is it.

18 year old kid been drawing since mid-2012, these are their WIPs from latter 2013.

His latest one sucks ass. Seems that he only knows how to draw girls (and likely only from reference).

That Elsa painting screams Sakimichan. It's basically exactly what she would paint, just done with way less technical skill.

That one and the day 3 one are Sakimichan as fuck.

I happen to know this guy, he just started painting late last year but he had pencil drawing experience from 15+ years. He just picked it (art) back up last year.

>mfw I actually know this demented self absorbed faggot and have talked to him.
>mfw that was last year and he still hasn't learned not to used Dodge and burn for shading and all his shit looks like pure garbage.
>mfw he chooses to copy Sakimi out of all.

Hey Carlos, how' your dick , still small as fuck you resort to posting your shit on 4chan?Pathetic.

I see these fast improvements and think not, "I'll never be that good"; but, "Shit, someone can advance that fast?! I should knuckle down!"

I feel I've got to point out something about this, and other similar 'improvement records'.

No, I'm not going to reveal that he's a cheat or some bullshit. Kid's damned good, no doubt.

However, all he's really done is bust his ass studying how to control value in order to depict volume through contrast. It's not actually all that complex, but he's been working at it for four years.

Four years. That's how long it's supposed to take for you to get a BA or BS from college. Think about that, four years is enough to take a hardworking and determined kid and transform him into an educated individual now capable of pursuing higher education or transferring into mid-level employment.

To see that progress in four years shouldn't be disheartening or seen as some divine talent, it's nothing else but proof of what you can get with a good work ethic.

Stop posting your shitty improvement image already. And because you seemingly want to hear it again: These are just studies. Copies. Almost anyone can do a good study if they're careful enough and take their time. I have seen absolute shit tier artists push out great studies because they spent tons of time on them.
Do some original work already or stop fagging this place up with your giant ego. Right now you're just a tehmeh/dot wannabe.

1. This image is one of the first images that you find on google when looking for improvement charts so I rather doubt it's the guy. I've seen people post this on many boards in threads like this and many imageboards over many years.
2. They are studies, yes - but not copies. They are not copies at all, they are rendered drawings with rules of anatomy applied to them probably in the places where they weren't visible on 3d references in real life. The guy also said in the very chart he started doing his own animations in 2008.

>>1705681
I hate to ask about the brush but that "sketchy" one that was used to made the old guy in a hat is something I've been looking for months. And it's the only one I would ever want to load into PS. Any idea where I can download/buy that one?

I really like his technique though (esp some of his later works on dA), the rendering is very clean and the linework is really, really respectable. It looks effortless.

I think the brush he's using is named prueba, with paper texture.
The brush is from paint tool sai, anon.
