Actually, it's about the image you project, Dali was a hack that got popular simply for behaving all crazy and shit, doing stupid things like that mustache and retarded look he's always portrayed with, eating/cooking (i don't really remember) his own pet rabbit, and being obsessed with his woman, painting her everywhere, alongside all that performance art he did when young.
