Is this level of detailing even worth it?

Also note that this is zoomed in on the guy's face...

The guy had a vision for what kind of look he wants to achieve, and then he proceeds to nail it down just the way he likes it. To me that would be very satisfying. And his works are loved by many people, landing him many opportunities to do things like a movie pitch, an artbook, doing talks around the world. I'd be happy too if I could do that.

Eh, I'm not a huge fan of Luvisi's art, but there are plenty of people who gobble up that detail and photoreal finish. It works for him obviously, he has had enormous success.

Is it "worth it"? Depends on what you want to do and who your audience is and what your taste is. It's not that insane anyways, when you look at the zoom it looks like he just threw some photo texture of skin on top. The stubble is painted pretty crudely actually.

Also, what's up with all the Luvisi threads recently? The guy made decent work, enjoying some success, and an all around likeable guy. Sure his works are not what the typical /ic/ user strives for like Mullins, Jaime Jones, Ruan Jia, Min Yum and the others, and his work may not stand to a handful of other artists out there, but different folks, different strokes. I for one am happy that people are trying hard to realize their vision, whether it is a painterly approach, a sharp and precise approach, stylized, or any other. It keeps visual art interesting.

there's a market for it. i do hope the industry gets over it's photorealism boner though.
it can be fun to renderwhore sometimes.

The industry is currently populated with hacks who think that a painting should look like something out of a computer game.

I don't mean the people who draw like that, but the people who hire these artists solely for the gimmick.

Im not bashing on the guy?More power to him.I wouldn't follow him just so that I flame on him silently.Im just curious as to how much detail is "too much" detail. And since I saw this on Facebook I decided to thread this and figure out what /ic/ opinion is.
My opinion is that this much detail isn't necessairy since most often than not it won't be even visible considering that this is a zoomin and Unless it's printed on a billboard you won't be able to see it.So in my eyes it's just wasted efford.Second all that renderring won't help you push the message of the picture more, but concidering LuVisi's art, more often than not there's no message whatsoever, wich I find wierd, since it is his book/project.Shouldn't it be more than just overly renderred characters posing randomly? I didn't even know what that Killbook bounty hunter thing actually was until ic explained it's just a picture book ? idk
>TL;DR
I'm trying to understand the thought process

>> No.1664582

Yes, /ic/, not everyone has to paint exactly like Jaime Jones and Ruan Jia. How about you just go work on your own art?

Like I said earlier, he had a vision and he went through with it. Detailing and rendering things to the most microscopic elements has been his thing since he started out. It's what he feels satisfied working with. I might attribute it to his slight autism which he admit he had in an interview long ago.

In the end, it all depends on your preference and taste.

I'm pretty sure it was in Dave Rapozas stream that he said he had ADHD and how his parents and teachers said he should quit because he'll never make it or something.

Props to him for giving them the boot

If the person wants to, why not. When I was in second grade I painted a picture with 56 individually drawn chickens on it.

Adding those final details in and seeing how far I can push something is better than sex to me.

I'd think that ADHD would make you detailing less.
