Has it ever occurred to you that, maybe, everything... every tip, every redline and every suggestion every di/ck/ gives to you is actually a conceived lie to actually make you draw worse?

I mean, most of these people draw for small or big quantities of moneh... and drawing is a very competitive field. Why would they help others and risk improving the skills of a possible future competitor?

Art isn't the career field you dive into with the intent of making bank.

People help each other for a variety of reasons. And it's not like the fundamentals are subjective; if someone is spreading disinformation they're more likely than not going to lambasted by others who know what they're talking about.

I think it may happen but not in a considerable amount.

A bigger problem is the vague and plain wrong critiques or the condescending attitude of some people here.

I try to limit myself to the few things I know for sure and give my impression from an aesthetical pov.

If you are completely unable to judge a redline or critique on its own merit and with your own brain, then there's really no hope for you as an artist. Analytical and critical thinking is crucial in this field. You can't rely on people holding your hand and hope that they will lead you to the promised land.

If someone gives you a bad critique or advice and you just accept it as the pure truth, then it is your fault for being too dumb or lazy to not be able to identify it as such.

Most of the criticism that gets posted on /ic/ is very simple things like "draw from life, study loomis/bridgman/vilppu, learn perspective, that guy looks awkward" etc. Just universal advice for advancing your art styles.

There's some people here who don't like that, like the anime thread, and, well, just take a look at how horrible they are.

When you get to an advanced level there's really no point in coming here anymore because all of your comments will be "great work dude!" or "OMG tumblr plzzzz what brush did you use!?!"
