I remember how proud I was of this -- my first painting with a tablet.

I had the whole concept of a dodo being served up for lunch for months and finally getting to lay it out was pretty cool. It turned out pretty flat though, but I still like the sky.

I think you're better off with figure drawing.
Figure drawing teaches stuff that carries over to pretty much everything that you will ever draw.

If you would have started making generic zero perspective concept art paintings, I think, you would have suffered down the road.

it has a lot of specific knowledge.

still-life carries best.

figure drawing is just popular because people are the most interesting thing to most people. no-one gets exciting about drawing a pumpkin sitting next to a flour pot or whatever. and if you show a pleb the most beautiful drawing of a bowl and some lemons ever they still won't pay as much for it as a nice expressive picture of a naked chick.

I spent 9 hours doing this shit, I had the great idea that I could mix both traditional and digital. It failed miserably but I got an A* so everything turned out well I guess.

Anon, you just made my day. I've been busy with applying to design school so I've fallen behind in drawing. My tumblr is a mess.

I went to my interview for Graphic Design school in Toronto today and the interviewer basically flipped through my portfolio and sketchbook and told me my chances were low because they were too illustrative and not design-oriented. So yeah, I've been bummed all day.
