It's not awful, but it's nothing special either. It's a line drawing I think anybody could do after probably less than a year of beginning to draw with consistent practice. The one thing that's really bugging me about it is the tiara bit. There is no hair sticking up out of it in the photograph, and the way he did it makes it seem like the tiara is bent instead of rounded. The eyes are also pretty big

It certainly doesn't seem like 3 years of education at an expensive art school. It's just really mundane

It's really not too hard. Get in good with a community, post your art, do some requests and after a little while start advertising that you're doing commissions. Those with niche fetishes like inflation and weight gain and furries are usually the most willing to part with their monthly tugboats.

No, I have an art blog on blogspot, a facebook page, and I draw random stuff. Then people come to me, ask me to draw a banner for their blog/something for their t-shirt/a gift for a friend etc., they tell their friends and they keep coming back. This way I built a steady group of customers. And then finally one of the happy ones decided to hire me sort-of-full time to design cartoony creatures for his game, so doing that + commissions = living.

Anon may be living in a country where 1$ is still worth "something".

Few examples:

The low wage threshold salary in Romania is 1.30 euro per hour.

The average monthly income for a Moroccan family is 5300 Dirhams ($658) but 20% of households have a monthly income of less than 1930 Dirhams ($240).

My point is, depending on the commission, 1 hour of work for 1$ may be worth it more than working at the local Kebab.

Yeah, I live in Poland so I can charge less than you would and still make a living.

So the prices vary from 10-15$ for a very simple drawing that will not take me more that 1-2 hours, to 100-150$ for something that will be sold later on, like a t-shirt design.

The full-time job gives me around 830$/month, which is an okay pay in Poland for someone who just graduated. On a good month I'll make 300$ extra from side commissions.

1 dollar is around 3zl (my currency).
