Hi there bitches.

Industrial designer learning how to draw with markers here.

I just received a payment and Im about to blow around 100-150€ in markers. I was waiting for money since months ago, and I have been limited to my greyscale markers.

But the problem is I dont really know what colors to buy. Only thing I know for sure is Im going to get a set of warm greys to compliment my cool ones.

So what colors should I choose, for maximum versatility?

Also has anyone tried prismacolor markers, better or worse than copic?

Prismacolor are pretty good as well they're not bad so if you're thinking about them they're worth picking up. Just the same look into ShiHan TOUCH markers. They're almost near quality to copics at less of a cost. I recommend those highly.

As for a basic palette you should have at least around 25 colors. Ones that match and compliment to create lighter and darker shades of the same color. An example would be:
Pale Yellow/Dark Yellow, Pale Sepia/Sepia, Flesh/Redwood, Cadmium red/maroon, Mauve/Purple iris, Violet light/blueberry, Pale Indigo/Space blue, Ice blue/Ultramarine, Linden Green/Palm Green, Aqua/Blue-green light, Ivy/Evergreen, and some grays to go with it.

However it is more ideal to get a bit more advanced at around 50 colors. In addition to the ones up top I would get something like:
Cream/Goldenrod, Lemon Yellow/Chrome Orange, Pale Flesh/Blush, Peach/Ruby, Pink/Salmon, Powder Pink/Deep Magenta, Aquamarine/Process Blue, Mint/Forest Green, Turquoise green/Deep Evergreen, Pale Olive/Dark Olive, Suntan/Mocha, Buff/Delta Brown.
