just look up tutorials online on how to sign up for weibo. you should be able to find something
that page though is asking where you live (the option in your pic is set to China (中国), scroll down until you see something like 美国 which is america..if that's where u live)
the option after that is asking for your phone number???
and then the third one i'm guessing is the activation code. maybe they'll send you something via phone, i dont'remember how i signed up for my account

There is absolutely zero logic behind this progress. In first year of his drawing (traditional and digital) you can see SOME progress, but nothing too dramatical. But then in the next year of doing art, his skill jumped from novice to professional.
I've seen progress of guys like Dave Rapoza, Hannes, Janashi and all other "famous" guys from Cghub and CA but none of them can't even get fucking close to the progress he achieved in a fucking year.
Not to mention how high his skills are now..

they get to live where they study, and they just focus on getting your art better. Art institutes and colleges here in WESTERNIA make you put lot of efforts in learning about art history and stuff that gives your art another meaning.

Their metod of learning is great for game illustration, yeah, but it works only for that, and all they work ends up looking very similar. Its like preparing a doctor, (or at least how I think they prepare doctors) they all know the same and should use the same procedures to get the best results.

lol, then I guess you just don't know many artists. Stop being such a giant fanboy. I love Jaime's work myself, but he's not the undeniable god of digital art. His technique focuses on a painterly look and brush economy, that's something a lot of artists are good at and not something only Jaime has ever mastered. If he were to directly teach his painting technique to students, they could just as easily catch up on it as the artists that are taught by Ruanjia.

Now everything that makes both Jaime's and Ruanjia's work stand out from the rest is an undeniable mastery of the fundamentals. They have a great understanding of color and light, of composition, of values etc. That is what seperates them from the rest. Not some superficial technique they use.

And many more

What they all have in common is that exept for the main focus of the subject, everything is low saturation, low contrast and maybe even vague.
The main focus on he other hand always has contrast, is sharp, and and saturated in comparison. sometimes even with a light shining directly on the place of focus. It's always the sparse lighting and that little bit of light in the center of attention that makes the piece work. it literally makes them glow.

Almost all of ruan jias best pieces are like that. (as far as i know)
That kind of working process automatically makes a piece that guides the eye well, and is well structured. It's a process that is grounded in a compositional
principles, and is made to guide the eye by using ONE strong focus.

When you take jamie in comparison, It's not always that obvious to explain why his pieces work so well, and every piece is different.
And of course, what makes them both great is the fundamentals they have underneath that process, but i'm saying this "typically chinese process" is a lot easier to streamline.
coming back to what >>1585451 said, i think most of the pieces not done by ruanjia aren't even that impressive in terms of technique, but they still "work", simply because that process is so well structured.

Well, correct me if i'm wrong. This is just a feeling i have.

There's constant variations in everything Ruan does. I started doing some studies of his recently and I found that every single mark he makes is in effort of describing the form. To do this, he controls the living hell out of everything (including the shape design) and will change it ever so slightly to make sure it reads that the form is turned. Look at the eyelids of >>1583591. Notice on (our) left you can almost draw a line where the shades change. As the eyelid faces down to the eyeball, there's a small white light he made sure to put there so you know it flattens out. The right eyelid has one single sharp inverted U shape to describe it facing us, and a few more distinct turns facing upwards.

There's even variations within the variations of the hair. Sometimes he'll make shit up just to have it read as turning in a different direction. So if you look at the M shape above the center of his brow, you can again draw out the lines that he put in to make it read as if it's turning. He went vertically down the form as well.

When I was doing the studies, I would actually pause and contemplate every stroke and I really got into the mindset.
>"Does this mark help show the form I’m trying to show?"
>"Does it show the plane change accurately and is it pleasing to the eye?"
Now notice the value of the ear. That's controlled as hell too, especially in shape, but he doesn't worry about making it read because he wants your eye focused elsewhere.

Another anon put it really well in a different thread. Ruan has a mastery of every single facet put into his work. It's like a surgeon mathematically and painstakingly crafting every detail, or something to that effect.

>> No.1586080

Hm, so you could say that he fakes the values to have the form read lots better? What I mean by faking the values, is that he doesn't works with how the light really works and strikes the object, but rather uses intuition and judgement to lay the values that will read better for that form?
I hope I'm explaining myself well.

That's kind of a generic description though. You can say that 99% of art will do that. It is just putting the most contrast and detail in the focal point and then creating hierarchies of value and colour and edges. Nothing new or unique to Ruanjia.

And honestly a lot of the other artists that are ripping off Ruanjia...feel like ripoffs. I see them using his visual language and tricks, but they are just...throwing them in there. Like "oh, speckly brush on hard light layer, check, glowing shadows, check, stealing his hand design, check, stealing his colours, check". They don't actually seem to understand why he is using all these things or to what efffect, they just put it in their painting for the sake of it. The result is a gimmicky copy, and half the time you can tell immediately which exact piece of Ruanjia's they are copying these things from.

Anyways, attached is a Ruanjia image that isn't following your sparse glowing formula.
