Make the torso longer. Look at porn or something. Or look for muscle references. I used to make girls this way until I learned the muscles and understood the pelvis and how it made women's hips look so good. I feel that if you get the hips right, your knowledge will fit the arms into place.

As for the feet, she looks likes she's wearing high heels, so draw heels, or flatten it and draw shoes

yeah man, I'm with you, I struggle so much drawing faces front on, I find it so hard to apply things dynamically to the picture because I have to maintain symettry, and if it's too perfectly symettrical it just ends up looking boring.
The weirdest part is I used to be the complete opposite, I could only draw faces from the front and couldn't do 3/4 or profile, now i PREFER those. go figure.

To all of you fellow animu artists out there, what are your mindsets like while you draw?

I find it better to think about cute girls doing cute things, it gives me some kind of mental boost/motivation, jazz music helps as well.

Also how do YOU guys draw skinny/petite bodies? I always end up drawing things "anatomically correct", or at least as anatomically correct as I can manage, and they end up looking more muscly and bulky.

Recently I've been listening to a new kpop album that came out.

I have trouble drawing moe proportions too. I drew this in order of right, left, center - so it took a few tries before I had gotten the body right. Like >>1514081 said, I've actually been doing studies of KPop videos as well (just cause they do ridiculous poses and have a simple body).
My main focus right now is rendering/studies so usually my figures just end up turning into animu characters rather than me setting out to do them specifically (unless I venture into dr/a/wthreads)

How I do it - Hard round (or flat for more variation), min diameter 0%, min opacity 50%. Use pressure to control line weight obviously. Determine light source, lines are thinner when facing light, thicker otherwise.

Line weight is less important if your style is value based, just do a thin line and colour it in the end with a clipping layer.

1. One is a more fluid contour with varied line where as what was done in the other pic was more of a flat lineweight that can be done by using the Lasso Tool and Strokin'. If you can't tell the difference then perhaps you should study more.

2. Sorry, I was thinking of Professional applications. I forgot the OP (if this is you) is still in School.

3. Use a larger Brush Size for thicker lines. Change the Pressure Sensitivity of your stylus.

PS. Weirdly, it was in the pic I was tracing for a client, probably done more for visual aesthetics than practical positioning. Hand was my choice given the images on Google I dug up. Anyhoo, I was paid for it. Jelly? :D

1. Varied Lines? Why did you leave that out in the first place if it was so vital? "Flat lineweight"? I think you need to pause for a moment and ask if your creative usage of words to describe things is offering opportunities for miscommunication. Arbitrarily combining words to express a term is pretentious.

2. I graduated a decade ago. What make you think this is a congregation for "professionals" and "students"

3. Large Brush = Large Marking? [citation needed]. You told me to try harder. Well in case you didn't know: Harder pressure means bigger lines.

P.S. Unless that picture is in public domain, or you own the rights. Even tracing the composition of another person's work is illegal. Well, I wouldn't worry, I'm sure a "professional" like you has lawyers at the ready, since you're easily willing to admit you lifted it off google search.

I did say it. Apparently, OP didn't understand what "Bold Cartoony Lines" mean. It is rendering a line thin to overtly thick to thin again. OP was doing it in the original pic, just very sloppily and without thought. Flat (or Dead) Lineweight is what OP did in his/her 3rd pic and can give a drawing a whole different effect. Though still valid, it didn't seem to conform to what OP's intention was in the 1st pic. I don't know, I talk this way to other artists and they seem to understand perfectly what I'm talking about. Now if I were to Juxtapose this with the Gestalt of that... ;P

2. OP posted another pic that was a WIP for School. If that is not the case, it makes me curious as to why OP wants to pretend to be a child.

3. "Try Harder" as in concentrate (ie using your brain and a steady hand) on making more deliberate, elegant, cartoony lines. Of course you can set your program to Stroke In and Stroke Out and set a Correction of 3-5 and make some very fine lines. A larger Brush Size would also mean Bigger Lines. Think outside the box.

PS. Well, you don't have to worry about me getting sued or anything since the drawing is so derivative of the original that a lawsuit won't hold up in court (if it got that far). I appreciate the concern though.

You seem to be knowledgeable in several professional fields. Too bad Art and Illustration is not one of them.

1. How does, "bold" imply "varied"? How does "Flat (or Dead)" imply fixed lineweight? Talking with the same morons like you, conditions you to ignore the presumptions you all share. And expecting that language to carry over to strangers, especially over an internationally recognized web site, really shows how moronic you are with communicating. But hey, we're all professional here, right? And the this stuff is soooo... standardized, right?

2. This is a 18+ board, why would anyone pretend that? And being in school automatically means you're a child? And why are you curious about an anonymous stranger personally, I thought you were here to give instructions? *ahem* I mean "critiques".

3. "Concentrating"? Fascinating! How does this "Concentrating" actually work besides being deliberate, elegant, and cartoony. I'm puzzled by such a strange contradictory grouping of terms. I hope you're not planning on using the term "flowing," are you? You already used, "fluid" and that's a red flag.

P.S. If you were relying on the design--the composition, the philosophy--of the photo to make the same point, you weren't as far removed as you'd like. And if you didn't inform the client where you got it from, well...

You seem very confident in your artistic abilities, it's unfortunate they are unvaried and naively unreflected on. You clearly got the registration side of things down pat. A few hasty mistakes here and there, but no big deal really. We all make 'em. But your design sense and critical reasoning skills seem to have pigeon-hole your view.

1. Actually "Cartoony" rather than "Bold" should have been the word that was the 1st clue. The example I did from the same reference as you should have been the 2nd clue. I showed you want I meant and you still don't understand. Sigh, and you're calling me moronic. Laughable.

2. Interestingly enough, you are correct, it is an +18 board. Why aren't you acting like one?

3. Why do those terms "Deliberate, Elegant, and Cartoony" have to be contradictory? Ever look at the works of Doug Sneyd? Chris Sanders? Watch the martial arts films of Jackie Chan? Stephen Chow? Examples that encompass all those terms. If you can't fathom that, then it is you that's pigeon-holing your view.

PS. The composition and point of the picture is not the same. 0/4 too bad for you.

1. How's that a "clue"? How well known is that collocution, really? I mean outside your professional friends. Could you cite something?

> I showed you want I meant and you still don't understand.

Freudian slip or not. You showed me what you wanted done? So this has really been about you prescribing how you want things done? Wait! Are you my client?

2. I assimilate with the crowd I'm at. So if I'm acting like a minor, and you know I'm not, and you're really interested in that I am. Wouldn't the more pertinent question be why is that a factor for you to engage with me?

3. I would like to see how you connect those terms without changing their boundaries, or their abstractions. I'm not saying that's impossible--I'm more like saying you seem to be squawking those words because you *feel* they work together. (Lot's of romantic "professional" jingoism, but nothing meritable against any critical scrutiny.)

P.S. Never said they were same, just said it was a part of the Design. Unless of course you're not sure what you meant using the word "aesthetics" (Psst. It has something to do with utility.) 0/10 for you, Maybe you should've actually read a real book, rather than engulf yourself in some pop-culture-education.

>Please redo the OP Tokio Kid and show me up.

Oh! I couldn't show up a professional like you. (See >>1514822) You're way out of my league. I wouldn't even know where to begin with what substantiates _better_. I mean, you use all these fancy terms like you're really in tune with the _better_. And you talk like you know what should be done without making any assessments. It's like you're really intimate with the _better_ choices. So it's a given, I would lose every time against that moronic-self-serving--*ahem* I mean "professional experience." There's no way my miserable talents and shit tier skills could ever compete with your confidence. This who's-got-the-bigger-dick-let's-draw-to-find-out is too real for me to handle.

You seem to be hung up on the words that define art but not on the visual. I saw OP do a poor line tracing of a painted propaganda poster. I thought you could do better. You didn't understand the concepts I was trying to get through to you with words, so as an exercise for myself (very fun indeed), I rendered the piece in a cartoony line style to show you what I meant. You still didn't get it, still getting hung up on words when all you had to do was look with your eyes.

I'm sorry that you're mad that I'm treating you like a child, using artsy terms and such. Don't want to be treated like a child? Stop acting like one.

Yes, one can read a book. One can read lots of books on Art and Design, know all the permissible widely used terms. You can still go through school and come out a piss poor artist. What it comes down to is actually doing the work, finding out what really works for you and what doesn't.

the normal stabilizers usually arent that effective. you want to use the time delay ones if youre doing finished lineart stuff. its up to your personal preference.

pen pressure sensitivity is in your driver software, under tool selection theres a slider for minimum sensitivity value, that should always be set to 0 unless you need to get completely even lines.

You have a poor choice of wording; throw out terms arbitrarily on an anonymous board; and then assume strangers are in sync with you. And somehow it's my fault you suck at communicating with strangers?

>I saw OP do a poor line tracing...

Who are you trying convince here that you were being helpful? You saw something and then told someone to do it like you. I'm expected to take that as advice?

>You didn't understand the concepts I was trying to get through...

And you didn't "see" the deliberate extreme measure I took your "advisement" ? You went into showboating. No assessment. Why exactly should someone render like you? Are you so incapable of looking at the design side of things, you can only shove your lifted cartoony line style?

>I'm sorry that you're mad...

Oh I'm not mad. Don't worry. I'm actually fascinated. It's interesting to see people unaware of their own guff. And I'm sorry you think that others should automatically take your advice without question.

>Yes, one can read a book...

Trying to dodge the point again, are we? You suck at communicating--it's that simple, moron. You may think you know what you're saying. But you don't. What you have to offer can't even hold to the slightest bit of scrutiny. All you can do is rely on echoing things. You fiddle with your own devices and expect other to just "get it". And you think your world of like minded moronic art buddies carries over into others.

Your moral-of-the story spin doesn't change the obvious that from the very beginning you really been making this about you. You know very well, that deep down inside, this REALLY was always about who's-got-the-bigger-dick-lets-draw-to-find-out. You know very well you can't do this kind of conversation any other way. The fact that your quick to say "show me up" tells me clearly you're only interested in getting others to suck your dick. You're too busy showboating and trying to figure out a social hierarchy using your 'style'.

Now, I'm very far from an expert my self, but I did a messy attempt to red line the "problem area". In general when sketching I recommend drawing a bit more analytically, draw most of the parts of the bodies that are hidden too! It's a great way to avoid wonkyness before you start rendering more finely.

Can't wait to see this finished. Reminds me of a certain classic gorgeous marble statue...

You challenged me to draw something better. Do you not think that what I did was better than your first attempt?

It's probably true that I'm bad at verbally communicating my ideas, (It's why I don't like teaching professionally). However you seem to be incapable of comprehension. When I wrote "Try Harder," why did you take it as "Push Harder?" As for assessments, the following attempts at the same picture were frankly not worth commenting on. The linework in OP's original pic was actually much better than the latter ones.

If I'm echoing things, who am I getting my terminology from? That would suggest that the words I'm using are actually used in practice, and something I'm not just making up. You can't have it both ways, OP (unless you do like it both ways, not that there's anything wrong with that).

I'm sorry you're still mad. For someone who is probably in their late 20's early 30's (if what you said is true), you really are wasting away the Golden Age of your life making excuses and blaming others for your failures. Draw draw draw. Then keep drawing. Why waste your time doing half-baked scribbles? A waste of time and effort.

I'm not interested in the worship of others. There are other talented people on this board that deserve it more. I can draw better than others, others can draw better than me, I accept that. I'm just sorry I can draw better than you.

Why do you think that was a call for you to do better than me? How did you derive that? Someones asks to see the quality of your work and you take it as a threat? Why does my judgment of your work need to be answered? What's the point there?

If it were true you knew you suck a communicating then why did you refuse to make any effort to alleviate that? You accuse me of not concentrating, when you didn't even take a moment to make a well thought message. Interesting, moron.

Why do I need to know where you got your terminology, to call you an echo chamber, when you can't even elaborate without repeating the same thing with no further qualification? I don't need to know who wrote the song to know the next chorus is the same.

Why would I be mad at someone willing to take time and talk with me? I love you. Spin that however you like.

And why are you so obsessed with my age? Are you uncomfortable with hearing an argument before you hear the person? Words need an authority before you can listen? How long have you've been in that position on the totem pole?

What failures of mine did I blame on you? I've been pointing out your naive thinking, while you've been trying to finger my character.

Why should I put more than 2 minutes into any work that will be shown on a terminating anonymous thread, so an anon who thinks this a dick showing competition can tell me what he would want me to do? What's the incentive here? To thrive off the merits of your quality direction? Your advice sucks. You can't even articulate a critique without implying "this is what your suppose to do". You think cause your work gets kisses somehow you know what is to be done with other's without questioning? You think redoing something in your vain is a critique? Really? How?

You can deny this all you want, and try to spin this another way. Keep trying, it warms an "old soul" like me that you care enough to defend your ego to a complete stranger.
