Welcome to ArtPG. This is an /ic/ draw game with no mandatory requirements to advance. You can follow silently on your own terms or you can post and contribute. The adventure takes place in an ‘alternate Gaea’ similar to our earth in all but a few ways:

>This planet is larger and has more trees which make more oxygen. As a result, all life forms are much bigger. Humans are exempt (mostly).

>The dinosaur extinction event never happened. Instead, lizards slowly devolved as mammals came into the picture. The Pleistocene extinction event never happened either, leaving us today with relatively large animals inhabiting much of the world.

>World population floats around 1 billion. Civilized settlements are magnificent walled cities. Settlements that are unwalled are considered derelict, dangerous, etc.

>Human technology is about 150 years ahead of us now. Cities are linked by hyper rail. Electromagnetic receivers allow devices to be powered anywhere a human can step on or below the surface (and up to 35 miles above). The rich have access to limited personal levitation devices. DNA splicing has developed recently.

>There is no military because these humans have realized that war is not the answer. There is a central government that operates on some amazingly fair philosophy that Earth humans cannot comprehend so I won’t mention it. There is still crime and typical problems of Earth however.

This world is a land of archetypes and mythology. The dangers are infinite and people have to cooperate to survive. You however, are on a solo journey to a mountain range that is the site of an asteroid strike. The central government confirms via satellite the crater contains an immense wealth of new metals and minerals. Despite this, no one has dared brave the journey to this site. You bring with you an explorer’s sketchbook, where you will record major events that happen to you, roughly three times a week. How you make it to the crater is up to you.

As you set off on your journey, I will notify you three times a week of a significant happening which you will record in your sketchbook. Each event will have three possible choices, and you have the freedom of choosing multiple (possibly contradictory) options. There will be no continuity as far as your personal actions go. This is a solo journey; you have no human companions, but you’ll be allowed to invent companions whenever you like. No limits, as long as they fit into your world. You can have these companions fight for you, or do a number of other actions. You’re free to tell the story through them as you stay in the background if you like.
>Every Monday you will arrive in a new environment which will play the theme to the events of the week. Mondays will set the tempo.
>On Fridays a special life-changing, awe-inspiring, or significant event will occur which you will have until Monday to complete.
This game serves as a supplement to your drawing regiments, and I do not expect you to drop everything to do these events. However, if you do these assignments, treat them as you would a professional job and complete them with everything you can.
>I suggest you spend a bare minimum of two hours on any of the options.
Do studies of the subject before you attempt an event option. You have at least two days to complete these, so before your attempt any of the drawings do proper research. I will provide some guidance as to where and how you should research for these events.
I want these threads to appeal to people of any skill level. Try and submit the best quality work you can. My goal is to get your creativity flowing and to keep you guessing. I want you to do research and create this world for yourself.
>I am open to any suggestions, and will only make changes if they can be reached democratically.
Please be civil and as constructive as possible!

Hometown

>Day one
>Week one

Hometown is a small sized settlement with a dense population of 35,000. From most places, the giant 50 foot walls surrounding the town are not visible. The residential district rings around Government Hill in the center and various industrial and business districts dot the outsides of this giant area.

This town lies in the center of dense woods on the outskirts of the State. Every walled settlement is linked by hyper train. However, the government has given you this mission and confided with you technology that would not fare well on the train ride. It is a special GPS beacon to mark the center of the crater for the satellites to target. You have to get to Central City, where a special supplier will give you the tools necessary to survive the wild. But first, you have things to take care of at Hometown!

Event:
The town celebrates as the news of the mission spreads. There’s a huge party in your neighborhood and the outdoor stage nearby has dancers!
>What style of dancers? Have it coincide with your vision of hometown: Geisha? African? Victorian? Gypsy? Futuristic?

Options:

a. Dancer gesture drawing
>Practice gesture drawing and really hit it hard. As Vilppu would say, “feel the pull”. Gesture drawings don’t have to be timed!!

b. Dancer figure
> Complete a refined sketch of a dancer from one of the following links. I suggest doing one from reference and one from imagination.

c. Costume/drapery study
>Set up a still life involving a dress or other drapery somewhere in your house and complete it to the best of your ability.

Next challenge is going to be on Thursday, then after that Saturday. I'm going to stick around for a bit and take questions before I get back to work.

Good luck.

i don't understand these other anons op. looks great to me and i've been working on ideation studies and stuff for a bit. i have a huge project i should be working on though so might not end up posting in order to get it done, but already the exercise is doing good things for me.
thanks for all your hard work

If it's the story you're cringing at then I understand. I sorta winged it this afternoon, but I thought it was creative enough. It's supposed to be fun. After all it's just there for background and to get people into a creative vibe. Relax.

If it's the challenge you don't like then that's on you. I think it's a great starting point and dance is like the epitome of gesture. Maybe the next event will have more stealth helicopters, mexican drug lords in castles, and tacticool M4's doing multikill headshots. Just for you.

Cool. I'm going to keep updating and if I hear overwhelming decision to stop, then I will. Otherwise I'll keep going and assume that people are following silently.

Also, the next updates aren't going to be this huge. Just had to set a backdrop and I felt the detail was necessary.

Nice.

>>1512321
The atmosphere has been fluctuating for millions of years, and back in the Cambrian, oxygen levels were 50% higher then today, and had a direct impact on life at the time. Although oxygen levels during the dinosaur ages were lower then today (nitrogen was higher I believe) I went with oxygen because why not. It's just a background story, and really has nothing to do with the challenge. You're trolling.

I don't understand why people are getting tripped up on the story. All that matters is the content of the challenges. I though /ic/ was smarter then this. /ic/ clearly isn't ready for a creative topic quite yet. Maybe I will repost this later with no story and just rules, so trolls won't have anything to aim at.

Whaaaat come on. Only a few people spoke up being retarded and you're going to scrap the whole thread? I fully intended to do this, I thought it sounded cool, but if the person running it can't be assed to stick with it for more than a day than neither can I.

>> No.1512460

>>1512452
No I'm not going to scrap it. I have tons of material here. I'm just considering remaking the OP post minus the story, because people are being way too immature about it. I feel like having all these troll posts are a huge distraction and scare people off. Eliminating the story would cut the trolls at the knees and maybe people would be more apt to read.

Updates tomorrow and Saturday are still in effect. I challenge you guys to check out the current event and try and do it. It's simply a themed gesture, as a previous anon said.

>> No.1512483

>>1512460
Eliminating the story would also make it just another study thread basically. Don't puss out now because a few people didn't like it.

>> No.1512499

>>1512483
Agreed. People naturally on 4chan are anti-intellectual, and the quickest responses are the ones with the least amount of thought. It might have been a poor choice of venue, but it's stupid to make a decision based only on a few loud, stupid voices that won't even give the idea a fair chance. You're missing the forest for a few tall trees.

Hometown

>Day two
>Week one

Event:
A jealous enemy(s) has stepped in your way! You’re just a few days from departing Hometown and a common thug wants some of that expensive government tailored gear he’s heard about! How will you deal with him?

Things to consider:
>The physical aspects of the enemy(s): is he a large or small build? Does he have a weapon? Keep in mind the type of town Hometown is. He probably doesn’t have high grade military gear and a stealth suit. Think of the characteristics of archetypical thugs and apply them to Hometown.

>Is there more than one opponent? Are they well-coordinated? Is the enemy a drug user or does he have a sharp mind?

>Exactly where does the encounter take place? Home invasion? While you are at a bar? In an alleyway? In the woods nearby?

This is a low level encounter in a suburban neighborhood.

Options:
a. Fight
>Depict the before, during or after of the battle with this hood. Is he dead? Did you dismember him? Did you use your weapon?

b. Neutralize
>Neutralize this threat. Stun gun, mace, baton, home security. Did you befriend him?

c. Document
>You’re decision of the moment is a nonfactor. Instead, depict this thug in the way a concept artist would. Clearly show the design of the character in depth, answering some questions and creating some for the viewer. Background scene, etc. anything goes. Show him in his ‘natural environment’ in an illustrated fashion if you like
.
