/ic/ who in your opinion is one of the best figure artist from the old masters ? Obviously they're all great, but who would you say has that extra touch in anatomy and overall painting the human figure ? Im thinking Michelangelo but i want to find more so I can do master studies on them. What would you suggest ?

I'd have to disagree with you about Michelangelo. He could paint/sculpt super-ripped dudes extremely well, but he had no understanding of the female form. Pic related.

Rubens would be one of my top picks. Compare this image with the original by Titian (to follow).

Jacob Jordaens was Ruben's pupil, and equally deft.

I've heard that too, unsure on whether it's true or not. What is certain however is that he used male models, as seen in his sketch for the Libyan sibyl. Female models were probably tougher to come by regardless, plus Mike may have been gay and simply uninterested in the female form.

>> No.1489291

>>1489285
Michelangelo made everyone ripped. That was part of the problem. He made everyone a burly man. Even babies! Other Renaissance artists had a bit of trouble understanding female anatomy, but plenty of them made womanly women, like Titian and Leonardo, so I don't give Mike a pass on that.

I dig late Titian a lot, but his early work (like Venus of Urbinio, pictured) are easily surpassed.

To his credit he made plenty of other reclining nudes that outshine this popular work.

So, who's gayer... Leonardo (painted androgynous men) or Michelangelo (muscular men dressed as wymin)???

On a different topic, I prefer Leonardo, he opened carcasses and drew them

I second Bronini, but I think sculpting body is a whole lot easier than painting them.

Also, this sculpture of David is prolly my favorite figure sculpture. Not sure why

Not really the right thread, but I don't want to make a whole new one.

I'm looking for a painting. It's fairly well known, I think.
It shows a bunch of old men in robes (a forum maybe) being shocked about a nude girl revealed from underneath a cloth by another old dude.

No, Bouguereau is a little too recent. Generally someone working in Europe before 1800. From around the Renaissance up until Romanticism according to Wiki, but personally I think Goya and Delacroix are late.
