Something did go wrong in the jump to painting. And there is a lot lost when many artists go from sketch to paint. It's not just you, there is a lack of skill or lack of experience even for good artists.

It's still a got plenty of good merits. However, the lips became poutier, guessing because of the mapping of shadows, the stubble is too thick and distracting. The nose changed shape and angle. The lights/whites in the eyes could probably be a little darker. Neck and collar area of the shirt are unrefined compared to the face, it distracts.

I posted that. It reminds me of Duane Keiser. He makes really great oil paintings, mostly of small objects. He's very successful. He actually accidentally ended up beginning this whole school/trend of painting-a-day artists, when he began making (at least) one small painting every day. He has a lot of collectors and sells pretty much all of his work outside of the gallery system (of which he used to be a part).

Also, there was this one thread where a guy posted artwork from a highschool friend that was amazing. It was pen and ink art with watercolor, and while I don't remember much of it, I remember one relating to Nazis, where half of Hitler's head was a photo-realistic remake and the other half was a skull. If anyone has his art, please re-post it. I've been trying to get in contact with him and see about buying a piece.
