Why You Should Copy Anime:
https://i.imgur.com/zNDsyF0.jpg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbKqIJcIUCw

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

When it comes to copying is it fine to draw over the referenced artwork and then copy the lines you draw (for example drawing a box over a character and then copying that box) or are you supposed to visualize the lines? I'm asking cause when I do the first thing it's kinda ok but the second ends up being quite a bit off and it discourages me from continuing with the drawing, since the errors would accumulate over time. Then again if I do want to be able to draw 'imaginary' lines I guess I won't learn it if I don't try... Damn this is frustrating

So I'm more developed in my fundies and I'm trying to translate them to Anime style type drawings, my biggest issues are line work and the faces. Any ways to improve this?

>> No.6129259

One thing a lot if not most western artists don't understand about anime style (or asian art in general) is that the line is far more important than the values. In western art typically values and accurate perspective are given a lot of weight, while in asian art the line tells most of the story.

Line:
>gives form
>emotions
>movement and dynamism
>weight or lack of it

can somebody explain this to me? it's a study but is the anime proportions lower on the skull compared to the loomis model where it's center of the ball? thanks

>> No.6134681

>>6134668
Because loomis doesn't even work for real human proportions. It's an idealization. The least important thing you get out of construction are the proportion guidelines anyway.

>> No.6134716

>>6134668
The head construction should not include the hair. Place the sphere such that the brow is the centerline.

You shouldn't care where the top of the sphere/skull is unless the character is bald because that part of the construction has no impact on the final drawing. It is covered by hair.

>> No.6134769

>>6134668
Lower the eyes to cute your face. It's a style thing. In semi-realism anime eyes can be higher. Just use proportions you like (measure the ref), Loomis head is pretty flexible. *Aku no Hana* (created with rotoscoping) is an example of realism-like proportions in anime and there is a couple of semi-realism animes.

depends on what anime you watch. most classics use realistic proportions that you can change later to fit the moe style. even stuff from Kyoto Animation uses proportions. for example that anime "free" with the naked dudes.

I'm trying to remember this one really good famous porn artist's name, can anyone help?
I remember he released a book filled with drafts/sketches of his finished doujin.
There was also this other artist who got caught tracing a huge bulk of his stuff.
I think one of his doujin is a scenario where the seitoukai has a duty to provide sexual relief or something.

Are there a lot of good artists using excuslively Twitter over Pixiv? I'm too used to Pixiv and the idea of browsing Twitter regularly is a bit repulsive to me.
What's good with Pixiv is that I can just check the daily rankings alongside newly uploaded stuff and call it a day. With Twitter, I have no idea how I could even go about creating some kind of routine like this.

Get a drawing tablet and trace digitally. Also I always thought that "tracing" is when you have a picture under trace near you, but not using a tracing paper really.

Yes. Yes, I can - it is because Loomis is RIGHT. The eyes actually go to the middle of the skull in your shitty drawing.
Your drawing just sucks, but your first mistake was to draw (Allah forgive me for uttering this word) Anime. Never draw anime. Don't.

The eyes can be placed lower than the middle if you want to draw... you know.. children.
But you don't want to draw children only, anon, do you? You're not a pedophile, anon, are you?
