**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Keep most of your personal works for /alt/ or the other critique threads. Here we should be drawing copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

I decided to use Pixiv and Twitter to post my work, I started both with 0 followers.
My first drawing got 40 likes and even some followers in two days on Pixiv, but on my Twitter I literally had zero likes despite using similar tags.
Am I doing something wrong or is it just easier to be noticed on Pixiv?

But once you get noticed on Twitter you usually get a lot more followers overall compared to Pixiv.

Twitter is an absolute nightmare to search for anything, I still stumble across Twitter-only artists that I wish I had known about earlier but couldn't find them because they weren't in the same network as the artists I already follow.

The way I see it you'd need to get your art noticed on Pixiv, build up a modest following, link your twitter there and hope people start retweeting you. The key would be to get the attention of other artists who have a bunch of followers and then it's going to just snowball from there.

There are many different styles of anime, and I'm not just talking about the most popular styles that change throughout the decades.
When looking at different manga or anime, when you exclusively look at the best of the best, there tends to be a huge difference between jap artists, yet all of their work can easily be identified at a glace as anime.
So, what are the main identifiable features of anime?

Big eyes are typically a giveaway and even artists that draw more realistic depictions of anime inflate the eye size in their own unique way; but big eyes don't always look anime-esque, so what is it about the way the people of the far easy do it that give it its own style.

Small noses from a front facing view are another indication of this style, but again, even though widely used there have been artists in the past and currently that gave their characters more defined noses while still avoiding looking western.

Is it the proportions, or the linework, or whatever the fuck else? What are the core principles of anime?

Tags don't really matter on twitter unless it's a highly domain-specific tag (like an anime character's birthday). The only way you're going to grow is by interacting with people (so they know you exist) and building very slowly from there.

Pixiv growth is pretty steady and will be much faster than Twitter until you get a lot of followers. Twitter growth tends to be exponential while Pixiv growth is closer to (but not exactly) linear.

I've ,,finished".
It's my first time ever coloring anything and I have to say I'm proud of myself. I spend way too much on barely noticeable details, but I enjoyed every single second of it and I'm motivated to draw more. Now I kinda understand why so many people like polishing turds so much. Thanks for your advice from last thread, I'll try to improve my lineart next time.

Well you just confirmed you're a dirty copyfag.

Only an incel would able to look at an anime directors art, and not see anything useful about it.

Literally all i need to do is realize how he places his shapes in space, and I can draw it from any angle.

This character is known for having a chest that draws attention, so I'm trying to emphasize them. I'll try to make both the same size without changing the volume too much.
The bottom left blue line was supposed to be the cape while the inner line the contour of the torso, I tried to make it clearer when I posted the second sketch but I still don't think it's right.
I'm insisting on this pose because it's an angle that gives me a lot of problems, so I'm glad to receive this kind of reply, I'll try these changes.

On the flip side, I'm in a smallish-medium artsy Discord server and there's a famous Twitter artist that sometimes posts there. Every now and then, some of us artist will have a conversation (just bantz) about the struggle of getting our foot in the door, especially on sites like Twitter. Mr 75k Twitter Followers stays silent, not even to offer to maybe boost anyone once in a while. Either he's an asshole towards "lower" artists, or he (smartly) doesn't want to open the floodgates for beggers to ask him to keep retweeting their art.

New guy that doesnt post a lot (I just come here for the books in the OP).
I've been studying on how to improve my drawing for about a month now and I've gotten better at using my graphics tablet.
I am having trouble with making a good estimate on how big/small I need to make certain guides when drawing (especially in angles other than 3/4th).
Like I'll make a circle to use as the base for the head and it feels off.
Is it just a matter of copying more till it becomes second nature and you stop wondering if you're doing something wrong ?
Sorry in advanced if it's a dumb question but I just want to ask you guys/girls since you know more about this kind of thing (some of you are really good in my opinion).

Gesture is mostly a way to understand how the body redistributes weight.
In your drawing it looks very stiff and floaty because there is no weight being distributed.
While I agree that gesture is being a bit overblown in terms of importance, you should atleast do some gesture drawings every now and then to help you remember how the body works.

Its hard because you don't know what you're doing. Read hampton or literally anyone who knows what they're talking about. But you're just gonna say "b-but I don't wanna be a doctor so I don't need to know anatomy wahhhh", then just shut the fuck up and stop complaining how hard it is to do something you never put in the effort to learn how to do. Doesn't matter if it's a cylinder or box or whatever. The thing is that you need to understand depth and perspective and basic forms will help with that. You could know the human body in and out and know every single muscle and you would still not be able to draw a human body at most angles.
