IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Learning to code. Can't get my head round the most basic thing.

I think the 2 things that are letting down your drawing is the eyes and lips, I would put the ref photo next to your drawing on your drawing software, and colourpick area by area to see where you went wrong with the values, the edges of eyes and lips don't have an outline irl, also eyebrows tend to gradient light to dark from the centre of the forehead (where the hair is more sparse) out to the edge.

Yeah the eyes are the worst part of it I think so too, the lips are kinda bad, the nose actually seems kinda 3D which im happy about. I know about the outline of the lips, the bottom one is actually a shadow and the one on top was kind of an accident, I tried to make it the same value as the upper lips but failed and it's way more apparent on the picture than the drawing itself.

Go to resource thread and find dynamic bible. Everything from drawabox is taken from it. Also Dynamic Bible is made by Peter Han. A good and successful artist unlike the one who started drawabox.

At first drawabox gave free crits which is a very valuable thing but the owner decide to only give it to those who pay his patreon. So, Now you only get crits from other beginners on the reddit thread.

And if you look at their reddit threads. There are no artwork made by those who finished the exercises. Not a single one.

Peter Han also have video class

There's a demo on there. If you can find the downloads for it. Please share it.

That the program is a ripoff of Han's classes hasn't been hidden. The thing is that the website is an exact copy of his classes, but for free.

To see how Han's classes are organized, the guy who made drawabox posted his sketchbook from when he attended Han's dynamic course, and as you can see, the program is mostly the same from the one in the web.
Here is the sketchbook: https://imgur.com/a/EmdtF

Now, drawabox is based on very basic fundamentals, even if the founder's art isn't that good, it doesn't really prove anything of the lesson's value. It's just an introductory course, and the founder even took away the anatomy part because he acknowledged that he wasn't proficient enough to teach that.

Here's a tip anon: Try to avoid sketching in black with a hard edge brush. Always have some texture or make it lighter in value like gray or a color like red. If you draw all the time with black on a white canvas all the time it will strain your eyes and the sketches won't look too good the way you're doing it there. You can always put in black lineart later but starting out with something softer on the eyes lends itself to easier sketching.

My suggestion, try doing the pose yourself and get someone else (or a tripod and set the camera to shoot when you say "cheese") to take a photo of you doing the pose. Ideally you want to be in your underwear or tight clothing so that you can see the anatomy but in this one that shouldn't be too necessary. The thing with figure drawing is that you learn by drawing it from life and photos of real people hundreds of times so that you can build up your visual library of how the body flows and reacts to poses. Only until you have practiced a certain pose several times should you attempt it from imagination.

Took a long break and drew the bottom two and finished the top right. I was drawing way to small for the detailing I wanted to do. I need to start studying some textures and take into consideration in advance of these types of things, I did not know how to do the shading on the boots at all and kinda winged it at that stage. Also I was working way too small to be able to shade all the creases and folds on the cloth. I definitely need to think about this to determine what I am going to draw. a 0.1mm pen is the smallest I have and it did not suffice.

I am definitely speeding up production of the construction and that makes me happy, I've started to diverge a little from a full 1:1 copy as I don't see the point of doing that if I'm not going to go all the way with shading and texture anyways. So I am going more for a very slight stylization just so things don't look thick and a bit off and that usually makes me a bit happy so whatever.

Anyways, I ask for critiques. I should focus on some cuter stylization of the face for these super small works as well. I also ultimately just need to break out of this "work small" bubble I'm stuck in.

No, actually what you need to do is learn construction, proportion and anatomy. If you claim to be a beginner (which you imply by posting here) you should focus on the basics you clearly don't master instead of hiding behind a concern over the fucking scale of the study or thickness of the pen.

I have no idea of how long you've been practicing, but detailed and misplaced focus upon format or style over actual content sounds like a way to weasel out of dealing with the glaring flaws. We all do it from time to time:
>"The reason why my art is trash is [insert anything other than 'I'm not disciplined' here]".
Judging by your image, you are at least somewhat aware of constructive drawing and human proportion, but it does no good because you seem to rush through your studies at warp speed, filling the page with busywork (using a ruler to make a head meter instead of eyeballing it is a crazy waste of time and effort, especially for the kind of style you seem to be going for) and putting down no actual relevant information.
I don't know how much time you spend on each pose study but my only real recommendation is allowing yourself to spend at least double that time and have a consistent plan. Also, I'd forget about details for a while and work with the purest most basic 3D primitives.

I'm going to say this one last time: you're meant to do line exercise 10 to 15 minutes a day. That's it, it's supposed to be your warmup, not the sole thing you draw till everything looks perfect. Even professionals have trouble drawing freehand ellipses, it's not an issue. Draw the things you want to draw because drawing only lines will get you nowhere. You're not the first person with this problem, I've seen several /beg/s mention they've been grinding the same drawabox concepts for hours each day. DON'T. Only draw one line on the same space. I see you're doing a lot of lines to connect the dots. That's a big no no (at least according to Scott Robertson's book) Only do one line and then draw the next line below it even if the line is shitty move on.

I've been filling copy papers with the line exercise only for the past couple of days though so I might be wrong. Also my lines aren't that good yet especially the vertical ones, but I'm improving slowly

No. There are different versions of the same exercises. It's good to practice consistency and be able to make the same line at once. However, neither of you are very good at drawing lines.

Why are you so rushed? Doing the same thing poorly 1000 times isn't going to make you better. Experiment with drawing the lines away from you, toward you, whatever direction is most comfortable to draw with your shoulder or elbow to draw a long, straight, confident line. Grinding poorly is bad, make efficient use of your practice and you won't have to do it 1000 times to get better.

I was doing Peter Han Dynamic bible exercise. The exercise is about made a straight line and draw on top 8 times with accuracy. Just for the exercise. While sketching yes, only one single clean line.

>Experiment with drawing the lines away from you, toward you, whatever direction
Yes this is what I'm doing, in fact most of my lines in that page are from an uncomfortable directions which is from left to right for horizontal, and from down to up for vertical, hence why they are wobbly. I just want to be more comfortable with every direction without needing to rotate the paper a lot. I know Scott mentioned that you only need to draw a straight line from one direction and the rest is a matter of rotating the paper, but I feel it's something that I want to develop

There are times when you won't be able to rotate a paper though - painting on a canvas+easel, on a wall, on a scroll, etc. It's not a useless talent.

Ball Point allow you to draw in very controlled shades of grey / color and being able to draw a little bit lighter at dmfirst is certainly more forgiving then black! start small and work your way up. getting to 6-8 inch long straight lines takes training your arm and muscle. try holding your writing utensil more vertical and ghost over the line before you start going. speed control is very important. too fast and you go everywhere, too slow and it's squiggly.

Today I studied form!, I went with a more eye-ball approach and used a few plumbing lines to find placement and a few measurements to figure out proportional sizes.

Started off cubic and slowly migrated over to more organic shapes, lots of trial and error along the way. I think tomorrow I will do more forms and also go over it with ink just to see how it looks as a more refined process. I also like the whole idea of putting the figure on a plane, I only did it once today because it felt slow, but I think in retrospect I might definitely want to do it more for figuring out form a bit better.
