OP here. The OP for the artbook thread is either the cover of a book (previous thread was the book of inspiration volume III), a painting or an opened book. What can I say, some of the previous OP had better taste than I, but the open book choice isn't new so people can recognize the thumbnail easily - I couldn't resist the urge to paste a pic of the Yoshinari sketchbook in it as a tribute to a generous Anon in the previous thread. Surely the next OP will do better.

It's full of practical instruction and examples that you can apply to anything, not just animu. Framed Perspective Vol.1 & 2 are nothing but theory with no examples to be found within the books. I'm pretty sure he got the book published on his reputation alone and not for content.

If your friend is too depressed for a big book, Shoujo Nemu is a manga about a girl who likes to draw as a hobby, adults who NGMI, pro who hates their life, crab buckets and stuff. There's only 1 volume so it's a short read, think of the 20 volumes of Bakuman reduced to 1 but cuter and bitter.

It actually does help but it's more for in-depth anatomy. When you've already gotten through the basics and you want to draw someone's guts spilling out or really complex movements/expressions, or there's some really weird little muscle that pops up in specific situations that you don't understand. I'd download it for special occasions like that, but don't waste the money on the hard copy unless very technical wordy terminology is your thing or other anatomy books don't go into enough detail for you.

I find Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist by Stephen Rogers Peck way more useful for general anatomy help though (It explains what things do but way less medical terminology, more pictures, and is better set up for an artist). If you're just looking for super basics in form, you can try Bridgman's constructive anatomy, or Anatomy for Sculptors: Understanding the Human Form by Sandis Kondrats and Uldis Zarins.

By the way, making an ecorche out of clay or on a 3d program like sculptris or zbrush is very very useful for learning anatomy.

It's a great book. If you're bad at rendering, go download it and give it a go. However if you haven't mastered perspective/form/proportion yet, you should do that first. I know it sucks but if you learn to render before you learn form you will just be a turd polisher. Rendering is the fun part, but without the other foundations it is utterly useless and you will objectively be a shit artist.

So try his other book on perspective first if you can muscle your way through it you will be a god.

People like this anon are the reason I happily contribute my own money to help share books for this thread. The reason I will hunt for books in Japan. You take some, and you leave some.

As much as I believe in the "try before you buy" concept, this book shouldn't be that fucking overpriced. Its so outrageously price gouged it's almost criminal. Literally highway robbery. I want to give you a sincere thank you for helping those who may not have the luxury to afford an art education. This goes far in many ways, and may actually help someone by innovating new creativity and content. Just like sampling old music and creating something new. This is a collective initiative.

As far as I know, no. Both StuartNg and myself have the empty binder with a note in it. The note says that the pages will be sent separately at a later date.

As the school was closing down, Dorne had all the copies destroyed. There's only a handful of students who went on to be a part of the Advanced Program and as such there's only a few sets out there. If he had any material written, it's long been destroyed.

StuartNg and the few lone volumes on eBay made the prices absurd thinking they could make free money on this. I pick on StuartNg because they wax poetic about how they're helping artists (by pricing these books out of budget for most of the world's working society.)

They weren't thinking someone would scan them and give them out for free.

Not that anon, but it's usually better to get scans/scanlations directly from the group that's doing them, and those are often distributed through IRC bots. I mostly use Madokami, which is a great site that requires the creation of an account through an IRC bot. "manga sites" is also pretty broad. Last I checked bato.to was fine after you make an account; no watermarks or downsizing. I always use a local copy read through MComix though.

I've come across a lot of material. Between what is posted on /ic/ and what I buy for myself I have more books than time I'm afraid.

Keep posting the rare gems, especially the ones that cater towards more traditional/classical drawing, painting and sculpture.

Eventually I'll scan more but I am reluctant to break the spines on the books that I do own.

I understand the reluctance to post the Watts Atelier content, however it is a godsend for many people who cannot afford it.
