Ill often use the negative space to gauge distance from things as well. This honestly just takes a lot of practice and learning to notice subtle angles and positions of things and their relationship to others. You do get better at it. You can also put the original over yours and see where you went wrong. Ill make little dots for positions of things and try to correct mine for practice.

>The pelvis/legs look odd, the face is cute

It's those form intersections in the lower body that get me. I find them hard to visualize because I really haven't studied them. A face is a bit easier to draw.

very nice, i think you can start playing with some hue variation to make the illustration more dynamic. for example, add some green to the cool blue, some fucsia to the skybox, make the darkest values a little warmer by adding some red, just an idea. color temperature and hue variation can add some life to a landscape.

With clothing, you can definitely get away with way fewer lines than you'd think. try finding anime you like and pausing, counting how many wrinkles they're using. Since they have to animate the wrinkles, animators will only draw the least amount they have to to make something look convincing. I think that can be a good place to start for study

Never looked at a manga in person but I have heard internet strangers say these pixel art etchings reminds them of the berserk series

But I think I must check out some anime and ink anime stuff. They do interesting effects with dot matrix looking shading and seem to value a little mid tone or grey gradients in their illustrations

I have been discovering that recently. I want to come to know this berserk epic and other aesthetic offerings to the world of ink printing that the manga people have made.

I mostly grew up with the ink works of Bernie Wrightson, frazetta, Moebius, Etc. Comic stuff you could achieve on the etching table but manga has incorporated extra-drawing technique

here is another if u all like

I'm getting to the point where I can sit down and draw something in 20 minutes that doesn't look absolutely terrible.

I feel like I could make something good if I spent the time (let's say a few hours) on a piece, but I'm finding it hard to commit. I'm stuck in a quantity not quality mindset of grinding mileage.

I even have dozens of painting ideas noted down, but in the end I always end up making "just another portrait" or drawing "just another nude figure".

1)Pomodoro technique. Human concentration lasts for about 25 mins. Then you become bored and distracted. Get an online timer and work in intervals
https://pomofocus.io/

2) Humans become bored or stressed when a task is too hard or too easy. The right task will let you enter a state of flow, which allows you to concentrate harder

Choose an image that lets you think "I could do that in a few hours" and try to recreate it.

3)Third, you don't have to really change the things you draw. If you want to churn portraits and hands, etc. Just do that. You are used to it, so it will be easier to keep doing it. But instead of doing just drawings of 20 mins, start doing of 1, 2 hours, then more. Good art takes time. Just take a day and work on a single piece. It will get easier.

>> No.7328803

Force of will, I'm afraid. Once you've grinded enough studies, then you're mentally used to practicing. It's the safe option, it's relatively easier. You can rely on your reference to have solved everything that the end result should contain. Look at it like a competition of sorts. This is your time to test yourself, how good you have gotten.

He just uses a stock anime head + a lot of noodling around with hard round brush for the details.

What's most important is getting the form of the head exactly right; everything else depends on getting the head right.

The tighter / more accurate a copy is, the more information / features / forms you can retain (from any given artist of your choosing) and eventually use in your own work without reference.

Being ignored is a critique. Youre not good enough to be worth adknowledging yet, or people can tell youre posting very low effort stuff. Keep grinding your fundamentals, do the shit in the sticky.

Or you can give people something to work with - tell us what you like about your drawing and what you are struggling with, ask questions, ask how you can improve it, thats more likely to get a response.

Big question. I've been using Vilppu for quite a while now and I was wondering "how" I'm supposed to actually watch these lectures. As it stands now, I watch them in increments and follow along with whatever he's drawing, trying to replicate his techniques and whatnot. Should I instead put the pencil away and just absorb everything he's saying and doing? I think the main reason I've been so frustrated with drawing lately is because I've been too focused on "getting it right" and not actually understanding the process. How do you guys usually go about watching lectures or reading books?

I don't feel ready to do lineweight so this will do for now. Will try to color and shade it tomorrow. It was done with reference, just some cute little artwork I found laying around on while browsing /v/.
This way of doing hands was a lot easier to me, I think I'm liking this style. Also doing front facing drawings feels like cheating! I only had to do half the work most of the time.

I think his mouth might be a little too low but I don't feel like redrawing it

What you could do is erase some of the cigar, get your lasso tool and select the mouth that you want to move it to, then draw the rest of the cigar after you have it position that you want.

Just like almost every feature in that godforsaken app they don't follow established industry practices like calling a fucking lasso tool a lasso tool, wait til you learn about clipping masks

I know what I've done now.
It's called "Lasso" in Clip Studio Paint and "Freehand" in Krita, so I was right enough in it's proper name.

...Why yes, how did you know? I had downloaded a PDF before I bought it outright, he recommends doing some graph-based sketches. Apparently Week 3 and 8 are the most important parts of the course, where they get a sense of what your propensities are.

And it never will cuz u were never gonna do it anyway. You'll push it into memory and then zone out in your Barcalounger, being hypnotized by daytime TV for the rest of your life. Don't you talk to me about murder. All it ever took was a downpayment on a Lincoln town car. Or that girl, you can't even call that girl. What the fuck are you doing still driving a cab?

Yeah this sound like gaslighting, so i will elaborate. I think you are able to draw better, it's clear that you got some fundies done.
So just take more time on your sketches and then post it so we can actually give constructive critique.
