This is a mock up cover for a Dungeons and Dragons module that I was considering making. I tried building the dragon from morphed and molded scales, with blobs in various shapes in another psd to copy and paste as needed.

Taking breaks are fine. They can be very benefecial and even help you get better at art in the long-run, especially if you're feeling burnt out. It's not uncommon for people to take a break and then find they've actually improved when they get back to drawing. Even when you're not picking up a pencil and drawing, your brain will keep processing what you've learned and growing.

I mean, not that I would count on that happening, but it can happen. Even if you just come back feeling refreshed and recharged, that still helps in the long-run. Just make sure you don't take TOO long of a break!

thumbnailing lots of ideas and compositions. I don't do it enough myself but getting in the habit of thumbnailing regularly is something I've been meaning to do. It really helps stretch creative muscles and brainstorm ideas.

One of my classes in animation school had us do 100 thumbnails based on a prompt given to us, and then choose one of our thumbnails to develop into an illustration. I've thought of making a DAD challenge in that vein but I don't participate enough in DAD challenges to begin with (I even failed the last DAD challenge I created...)

I forget the exact prompt, but it was just a single word. Like "do 100 thumbnails with the theme 'fear'", as a random example. It was pretty open-ended, just an excuse to get us thumbnailing.

You can thumbnail with a specific theme or idea in mind, or you can also just thumbnail whatever comes to mind as you do it too. It's basically a brainstorming tool.

with respect to what? if your goal is to draw daily, then taking a day off is in direct conflict with that. but you don't *have* to have the goal of drawing daily. as far as your abilities go, taking a day off isn't going to undo the 8+ months of drawing you've done up until this point, but you should be weary about feeling sorry for yourself and making excuses. it can be very easy for people to dismiss a day here or there, but those days can easily build to weeks and months and, after enough time, years. everyone has bad days and even weeks. and especially if you're a /beg/, even bad months. but unless you are technically retarded or lack basic hand-eye coordination, if you put in the time and practice properly enough, you will improve. if you find you aren't improving, seek out other eyes to help gauge the validity of that idea and ask for advice on how to improve your studying habits - this can be done periodically.

Objectively wrong. If you're not a part of this community, then:
- you can't be a part of the dadcord with their streams, study groups and what not
- you can't receive critiques from other dads
- you can't easily compete with other artists (houses let you compete in terms of hard work, tier tourney and similar challenges let you compete in terms of skill)
- you can't show off and talk about your wips without fear of losing followers, social presence can add a lot of stress
Now, it may be debatable if those are GOOD reasons, but saying that there's "literally" no point is just false.

Tired and dreadful. Roughly a month ago I was struggling with getting a job and tried to apply for military. During their recruitment process I got an diagnosis from a psychologist saying that I'm likely autistic. It was a shock to me (I associated autistic people with rocking back-and-forth, drooling and non-verbal retards; since I used to be in collage it didn't seem like an option). I asked for second opinion and got pretty much the same answer. It put my whole life in a new light and it obliterated my self-esteem. I'm also starting to notice things suggesting that my parents knew about my tism all along, but never told me, even though knowing this stuff would make so many things so much easier - I can't help but be resentful of them, they seem much more untrustworthy now. I'm still coming to terms with this condition, on the lookout for things that may prove this diagnosis wrong (there are some, but not many) or things that may prove it right (way too many, including this post since you probably asked for a short reply to have a casual conversation about, not a whole drama-dumping wall of text) and just learning about it in general. Despite being over 30 I'm still trying to figure out my place in life. I know it's unreasonable, but I still feel like a failure for being born this way.

Wtf that's me except the military part. When I was a kid I was sent by school bc I and few kids were causing trouble a lot (nothing serious, just disobeying and what not) and the told my parents I have adhd and high fun autism which they recommended I get treated but they didn't want to cause they thought meds were for insane people so I had to endure later school and college years without knowing. Had to go to the center and ask them about the diagnosis I took which they told me everything. Can't trust parents anymore cause they showed from that and also other things that they have huge ego problems. Their failing marriage and frequent fights don't help also. Refuse to get a divorce again for ego reasons because no good family divorces.

I agree that it was reasonable of them to hide it until I reached adulthood. Going to the same classes as others and approaching other kids in school with attitude of "there's nothing wrong with me, I'm just a bit quirky" helped my development and I didn't turn into an entitled brat like some kids do. But after that? If you think it's better if adults are going through their lives oblivious of mental conditions they have, then you're either ignorant or baitposting.

(Another Photoshop legerdermain assembly dragon, the Scribble Scale. I had recently been to a sci fi convention, and saw some great professionals' dragon paintings, and my friend who is a professional herself was with my touring the art show. One painting was of a female fighter caressing the snout of a black dragon, and my friend knew that artist and how he complained about having to paint each scale individually,and the close up of the dragon's face had hundreds. So this was my first attempt to find some Photoshop shortcut to making scales in my own dragon designs. I scribbled with the paintbrush at 75% a middling spectrum red,and then beveled,glassed,dropped shadow,and chopped up the results into handy chunks for copying and pasting as needed. The previous post's dragon was the second foray, in this case,one scale well designed, then replicated and morphed into needful shapes. Neither quite worked,but it was fun to explore that idea)

Done with the layout,kinda sorta.

This is Babe and Bub,the last of the experiments. They are above reproach, and all experiments should be: not presented as an attempt at a professional level piece but things done to teach oneself drawing stuff by drawing stuff. After this,I began exploring doing my story that would be the lessons about how to make comics by Photoshop legerdermain. The color attempts were interesting but awful, and getting the color consistent with each panel,and I soon moved to black and white, which I understood thoroughly. And having done so,strategically approaching the raw material I had drawn, and I am proud of the results.

My point is that these "unofficial" works are interesting in themselves, and cannot be criticized as something that would be "product ".

Another fever dream.

The Jeremey was concocted entirely in Photoshop and my God it's terrible. I was trying to recreate the fur effect of the mage in a previous post, but his situation was different:spines instead of fur,and a Roger Daltrey halo of hair. I think that I decided that it was good enough as a placeholder as I built the rest of the panel. It was through the construction of the 16 page story that I applied the lessons learned here.

I would not call myself a "furry" although I have anthromorphs among my cast. The narrative revolves around the political dynamic of the region,a kingdom ruled by Human "Trueborn" who had the varied anthromorph species subjugated for centuries, until certain individuals emerged wielding Chaos Magic,which is manipulating of the fabric of their reality that Trueborn mages can neither use or withstand. The war ended with a climactic non battle,and that was a decade or so when the first story starts,with long grudges and lasting frustration in the hearts of both players now attempting to Play Nice. Imagine what would have happened if voodoo was suddenly potent and all that it required was potential and training for more magic wielding voodoo priests. Would they give away the power freely, or hoard it selfishly? Would they be outlandish with displays of power,or would their influence be petal soft in its effectiveness? And how do the oppressors respond? A poor parallel, but a similar dynamic,more Rick and Morty meta-mechanics at work. So...

I'll post this. I did it as an excuse to draw naked anthromorphs and the story,what there is of it,is canonically correct, a daydream that character would have.

I like to put a timer for quick art to see what I can draw quickly with a full scene to make something with that I have to use all of the white space in some shape or form. Not too bad. The problem is that I should focus more on details with some stuff. But it's nice being able to make something small using space quickly.

It was a thumb nerve inflammation, it got pretty bad I couldn't even move my thumb anymore.
They gave me a steroid shot to suppress the inflammation, it's mostly gone but I have to stretch my hands for it to heal.
If you ever have a similar condition, I recommend getting a shot.
