Honestly I didn't notice the weird MTL on my first brief read but I don't think I'm going to continue working on it, for now at least.

As an ESL and a native Chinese speaker, I find it quite discouraging because to be frank, from what I read, the translation for the most part is decently accurate and direct, which is very serviceable and makes my version kind of obsolete (doesn't help that I write like 12).

Hey guys anybody know a good camera to use for scanning books? I have a DSCWX80 but it gets blurry when zooming in. I wanted to archive my books and buy some, like the Suhsio KLK books, or the Journey artbook, but don't want to go through the hassle of fucking the binding up to get them on my scanner.

I have a scanner. I've used it for years. I'm using a camera because my scanner is too small for large bound books. It is very difficult to scan the middle of a hardcover or larger sized softcover. There's always going to be a dark valley in the middle of the pages, the binding will get fucked, the pages will get skewed and distorted in the picture, and it's a huge timesink to make sure everything is oriented right. It's nuts.

My man literally any phone from 2015 onwards is good enough as "scanner" for books. You just need to set it up:

>set the app to save pictures as 99% jpeg quality
>learn how to lock exposure
so each page has same amount of white no matter if it is full of empty white space or has big dark images
>learn how to lock autofocus
>put the camera on the edge of table / chair
>put the book directly under on the floor
>play with some lamp until the pages are evenly lit but without glare
and once you are happy with amount of light, focus directly on middle of page, lock exposure and focus and then just take 1 photo per page (you will only photo every odd page). Once you are at end, flip the book and start shooting every even page

Do not use zoom, that just makes stuff blurry. even if the page takes only 20% of whole photo, with big resolution it is still enough. You do the cropping and rotating and assembling in some batch image editor like irfanview.com

and before you take 300 photos, make just 3 or 4 pages and then see them on your computer to verify the lighting is just right and its sharp. that is why you use the lock exposure and lock focus: so you eliminate randomness and keep all photos "Same".
