Or is there something else at play here? I kinda don't see the reason to use anything but the upper-most style unless money and time constraints are an issue.

mfers just don't know how to draw, neither the showrunners or the gooks they outsource the work to

Yes.

Postmodernism finally reaching American systems beyond the intellectuals.

Action figure era literally had toys to sell, the following 90's era was a product of people thinking cartoons sell more than products, ergo they were selling to advertisers and qualuty just kept getting stretched more and more downwards
>2010's
selling to 8 year old children and teenage girls since they're the only ones watching cartoons anymore.

You probably mean those "anime" that Netflix and Amazon keep putting out for "adults" but take a look at Ark the animated series.
The MC is a lesbian that looks like Korra.

The 80s era was notoriously cheaply produced and, by the way, looked fucking hideous.

I don’t see how this is a bad thing. I would have loved to see this type of programming as a kid with a sprinkle of calarts (the good ones, like Star).

Titmouse is all over the place and definitely isn't majority like Powerhouse or Studio Mir. They vary a lot in their stuff like picrel to the new TMNT show.

>> No.7119438

studios tend to make similar looking products even if the show runners are different because its easier on the grunts to switch art styles and animate

I love that pseudo anime art style, it's cooler than most legit anime.

The big thing that actually makes an animated series 'successful', for the most part, isn't the viewership - it's the merchandise.
Quite a few "successful" animated shows have been canceled because the dickhead execs couldn't work out how to hawk merch (sym-bionic titan being an infamous example).

So toy companies are a big part of funding for these series, or at least, a big part of why they exist - but if you look at the state of the toy industry at the moment, they're doing pretty awful. There's discussions about all the big ones (hasbro, etc.) going bankrupt.

But yeah - ultimately if they (producers, execs, etc.) CAN cut costs with shitty art, they will. These assholes aren't in animation for the art, they're there for business.

Why is it always a lesbian? It’s like they want easy representation points but they don’t have the balls to make the main character a gay man

>> No.7119603

>>7119522
Because men are bad, even gay men now. Fuck, even black men are beginning to be thrown under the bus. Have you seen the articles that are like "black men are the white people of black culture", or some such? These people are so fucking tiring, I wonder how they even managed to act sane enough to get these influential jobs?

Lazerhawk had faggot men and everyone hated it. Rayman and the Asscreed Frog were literally preferred to watch in that dogshit show over their actual main OCs.

Wasn't there that animated sci-fi show with a bunch of gay men that people just lapt up? And then the fanbase become notoriously toxic? Don't remember the name, and the quick search I did brought up nothing, but I'm sure someone knows what I'm talking about. It was popular around the same time as the she-rah reboot.

Anyway, Girls love gay male characters in media. The problem is that whenever they ham-fistedly write a gay male couple, it's cringy and too in your face. Like the dudes have no class and make crass comments and allusions to butt fucking each other any chance they get, or some other action to remind the audience that they're (first and foremost) gay.
And if there's something that modern writers are terrible at, it's writing in a non-ham fisted way.

Voltron Legendary Defender. Based on a Japanese property, designed and animated by Koreans, written by Americans (which is usually the problem).

I'd be the first to defend cartoon designs. They have merit on their own. But the reason these designs dominate is largely tied to ability, skewed budgets, software adoption, comedy hegemon, and stagnant views/ fucked up priorities of Western animation in general. Western animation principles in particular are clung to with dogmatic ferocity, such that animation is almost completely impractical in the states, and nearly all advances in animation techniques come from the East. Western animation is purely brute force and technical advantage, the latter of which has completely eroded away with time.

these lists really fall apart when you start actualy looking at lists of cartoons from these era
there's a lot of 80s cartoons that aren't "action figure" based
what the hell is "rebel era" supposed to even mean
dexters lab and PPG weren't even created in the 2000s
you can find 2010s cartoons that are of various different styles when you stop cherry picking
