Just found this son of a bitch in some discord I'm appalled they can draw and sculpt, should I start sculpting for mega gains?

Try it. thinking in planes is good for you.

It’s good, but they’re totally different skills. I was able to sculpt (irl) at a level people deemed good enough to regularly send me money but still beg in drawing. I had to practice drawing to get better at drawing. It’s not going to hurt your gains or anything though.

no a waste of time, just commit to drawing if u want to get better at it. you can do sculpting as another hobby but do not invest that many hours into it. its pointless.

Well, it certainly won't teach you the raw fundamental skills needed to work in that artform, but knowledge about subject matter (anatomy for example) should easily transfer between both. Say if someone knew how to draw and to sculpt equally well then theoretically they could learn anatomy by sculpting and then be able to draw what they've learned, right? I do know of a few 2D artists who used digital sculpting programs to create a sculpt of a character with tricky foreshortening problems (like horns, antlers, or snouts) and then used that sculpt as reference for drawing.

I believe that someone who already knows how to draw well to sone degree should be able to pick up sculpting pretty easily, probably easier than the other way around since in sculpting you're applying knowledge of 3D objects to creating 3D objects (either physical or digital) while in drawing you have to wrestle your brain into translating 3D to 2D and vice versa. Of course I've barely sculpted at all so maybe that's just dunning-kruger syndrome speaking.

I'd say to take a whack at it. No harm in fiddling with a 3D sculpting program or even grabbing a block of cheap modeling clay and going to town on it.

There's a reason fine arts degrees make students sculpt ecorches
Sculpting one digitally is not quite as hands on but it would still probably be beneficial
On the other hand if you don't draw and apply what you learned it's useless

My forte is line art,but for a few years I dabbled in Second Life,a 3d avatar chat program where the enviorments are created in game by all users, and one could make products and srll them to other players for game currency, then sell the game currency back to the company for your real world currency of choice. But although I could have devoted time to pure commerce,I delighted in providing an "experience ",unique places for romance. Which entailed conjuring building blocks from thin air, putting these blocks through rigorous contortions,,hammering groups of them into complex objects, and empowering them with a scripting language documents. As an art form building stuff in Second Life can certainly be, and the opportunity for self expression through making such wonderful places from their imagination, or copying a real world place. I had fun,and a semblance of a social life, and I gave Romance to the world, just those who logged in and found my nightclubs. More important than money. And what I did sell I priced cheaply,to encourage impulse buying, and was ecstatic when people bought my animated paintings. Art,craft, exhibited to the world, and a real world living can be made. And real world memories.

Thinking in 3d is a good skill to have, dynamic perspective comes a lot more naturally that way in my experience. It probably won't help you in many other aspects of art though... maybe anatomy I guess. But perspective is really fuckn important so you should at least try it out anyways.

Drawing perma /beg/ here.

You can try sure but keep in mind that the skills of sculpting doesn't translate to drawing entirely and I'm talking with experience, I can make a decent figure but can't draw it properly.
