As for the copying, from what I've seen the general consensus is yes. Apparently trying it while keeping your eyes on the image also helps with hand-eye coordination.

I've literally been on medications and still can't bring myself to do it, let alone almost anything. Whenever I start drawing, I literally can't make sense of something as simple as drawing hair. I can't understand 3D perspective nor make sense of it in my brain.
The biggest problem for me is literally getting up enough energy and motivation to even do this at all. Remember how I said I couldn't even play video games? It applies doubly so for artwork and doing literally any practice of this. I want to try, but I can almost never actually make myself do any of it.
I don't know why these seem so daunting. Literal 14 year old kids become masters at these all the time, and yet I can't do it for the life of me. I've never been able to actually commit myself to doing any of this. I quit SFM because I literally couldn't understand it and didn't bother watching any tutorials.
Not even mentioning the fact that reading these books is incredibly difficult for me to begin with. I don't know if I'd want to draw something that I don't want to draw, but then I don't even know what I want to draw to begin with. Just random things that I'm hyperfixating on at the moment.
I'm literally too retarded for basic trig. Even took a math placement test recently and fucking couldn't remember how to figure out the perimeter of a square or find the lengths of certain sides of a shape. I want to be able to do literally anything else except sitting in my room, jerking off and going to sleep. I want to give myself a year only because I've procrastinated on making my own artwork for years and years since I was a teenager. Now I'm 24 and have made no progress

I've been working through this practice sheet trying to recreate the shapes as closely as possible. I've been getting pretty good at it. Just need to work on getting my lines down in fewer, cleaner strokes. Copying is a lot like tracing except your eyes and stylus are disconnected. When I copy I pretend that I'm tracing and it works out really well.

I think it's a really cool monster design, but as a finished piece it's not that interesting. We're just kinda looking at him, straight on, he's just standing there. I suggest that you post sometihng you're working on and then we can go from there.
Start from the basics a rough of a figure just a basic shape, then work on faces from different angles.
I cna only suggest you allow yourself to do something (a reward) for finishing or continuing study of whatever it is that you're currently focusing on studying.
This is reminding me of that girl form that junji ito manga that literally needs to be whispered to do things because she couldn't make up her mind.
Rest easy anon, drawing should be something that you like to do, and so start small and work your way up to the hard things.
Start with something familiar and then introduce something slightly challenging and work from there.

Good! Keep doing the contour lines and thinking about the orientation of each body part and soon you’ll be able to feel it automatically. I also recommend drawing through and around parts as if they were transparent so you see the 3D structure of even the sides that are hidden from view.

Should I be painting over the reference image to learn how to use a soft brush? Working with a brush that doesn't make straight, hard edges is new to me and keeping the contours of the figures proportionate seems difficult to do.

I copied the reference image with the magenta pencil outlines using a grid and changed the scale of the outlines to fill the canvas.

Don't trace just redraw what you see as accurately as you can, start out by color picking for colors/values for now I would recommend turning the image into greyscale and turn up the contrast to make it more readable and easier to copy

The best advice would be stop focusing on lines and focus on volume you are still trying in your mind probably try to figure out the line because it has to end up somewhere it need to have edge instead of natural volume.

Even in the image you send you are still going for lines throw those lines out and think about what you are putting down on that screen instead.

It's something hard to describe, it's something you build over time with mileage when drawing eyes, other anons can correct me or back me up on this but the placement of the iris and the shine on it can really change the feeling of where the eyes are looking, if you don't have a particular idea of where your character is looking or don't convey it properly it can end up looking a little dead.

Well first I was trying to learn basic perspective, after like 50+ attempts and a dozen or so "lmao u suc" I tried to do something else. Copy some of his works from reference, then draw them again without looking at the reference, then compare yours to the reference again and see what you're missing so you know what to focus on next time.
