I'm in a charitable mood so I'll level with ya, I get it, posting on this board rarely gets you more than snide comments in response. That's frustrating. A piece of advice in that regard: be specific with what you'd like advice on. Like if you want to know why the face looks weird, or why the colors aren't working. Because when I look at what you posted, I see a million things that need fixing but I don't know what would be the most useful to elaborate on so I just want to pass over it.

So anyway, my critque: You're working with almost no value range, and it seems like that's intentional but you haven't the fundamentals to know how to do it properly. It's like you're trying to improve by doing studies and such but you're tying your arms behind your back while you go at it.

Now, "doing it properly" is a complicated thing to articulate and as I said I don't have the time to explain it in a whole digestible essay. Maybe if I remember tomorrow I'll do a paintover of one of these, maybe that'll help but other than that, you're doing studies and that's a good start. Keep doing that but try to be more realistic before you skip ahead to being stylistic.

of course not, but a lot of the compilation kind of reads like mud due to contrast issues. if you're going for a misty muddy feel (like that house in the middle, looks great) then that's neat, but it doesn't always work (lower right (even if we ignore the hands))

In a furry thread that sank into oblivion, I posted a bunch of newspaper sized strips that had a story involving discovering a remote control in an old chest that activated a war machine once activated. This is that remote control, and I expected to have it show up in many panels,so it got a lot of developmental work.

I would suggest learning more varied ways of hatching. The method used for hatching and shading on things makes it feel very uniform (mostly on the background, the characters/creatures do pop).
Currently the trees, cave, ground ect. all look like it's a turd cave

The difficulty in making something disgusting/uncanny is making it aesthetically pleasing as well. Check out the Manben episode of Jinjo Ito and how he approaches horror.
Otherwise it's just shock for the sake of shock and it can come over as really cheap. Nothing wrong if you're doing it for fun ofcourse.

Very nice, hit the 90s vibe well. Remember to give them all a second pass and drawing some expressions. Not because the drawings are incomplete or good, but because if you're making a graphic novel make sure that you also enjoy drawing the same characters over and over and over again.

I feel like you're just placing features on the head without thinking about ratios or construction. You don't have to always construct, but I think figure drawing or using reference and trying to understand the form will help you a lot.
Also the face is fun but it's only a small portion of the body. Drawing forms as a whole will also increase your ability to draw the face.

Want to get back into drawing after a couple years of relative hiatus and shit doodles.
I especially want to get into digital art, I tried a bit but I got utterly filtered by the lineart alone. Guess I'll try to mix grinding fundies on paper and on a tablet.

Started charcoal a week ago. This is my third drawing. Last 2 were just faces so I tried something with more of a pose and cloth folds. Don’t feel like I got those aspects right but I couldn’t figure out how to fix it from the reference. Kept working on the leg and it just never felt right.

Any advice regarding making my style more cartoony? I started taking drawing seriously when I was into anime as a young teen but I'm not too fond of the nowadays and want to change how I draw characters. Cartoony as in, Ren and Stimpy cartoony, not animated Marvel cartoony.

I have a few ailments that marijuana use has helped. Arthritis in both knees, one got smacked by a work table's steel corner and developed a blood bubble the size of a golf ball,and the other was shattered by a car accident that left the tibia fractured like a head of broccoli. And my hip is wearing away its cartilage so I was limping around like Igor,and that might be genetic. But after discovering a bag of marijuana dropped by a register at work, I soon lost the limp,and my joints have become more limber. I hadn't smoked for nearly a decade before that,voluntarily giving it up because I was dating a single mother and if the kid ever mentioned that she smelled it in my apartment, then child services would happily crucify me. But once Covid hit and I had to give up my website, I got too depressed to draw for two years. But after it reentered my life,I started creating again,and my style has been enhanced since my hiatus.

Now money is tight again, my work hours are being cut,and my union contract is up in April, so the future is bleak. I could get more from my local dispensary, but I am using the time to see just how badly my body is feeling without it.

My job is a physical one:stocking shelves in a supermarket at night, one that I have been doing for 40 years. The 2 year depression came from Covid making my domain name and website disappear,and although marijuana reignited my passion for art, I chugged along without it for years. I view its use as a tool:both to keep my joints lubricated and my soul tolerant of my circumstances. My commute is long,waking up at 5:15pm to be at work at 10pm because the 2-3 buses are often unreliable and I usually get to work around 8pm,just enough time for breakfast and a bad nap in the breakroom with my headphones blotting out the rest of the crowd while I am face down at a far table. When I was able to walk to the job in a half hour,then I had time to unwind and draw. Now,I have to maximize my time and marijuana is not mandatory but damn useful for making the aches and pains from my night disappear. I could go out and get some now,but I want to see life without it for a while. Over the counter pain relievers thin the blood,and are less effective in the long run.

Not an addiction, not a death spiral, nor my savior,really. A choice,and I am choosing not to just to discover how my body is adjusting without it.

My biggest problem is what to do with the 10 hour per week of "drawing time".

I usually get one night off,and lately it's been two. And if the transit gods are kindly,I can make it home around 7:45AM,and should be heading to bed around 11AM.An hour for dinner and showers, maybe 45 minutes for "chores",so that leaves about an hour for drawing for my average work day. For the past 6 months I have been videoing myself drawing stuff, usually random things that would strike my pot-addled fancy,just to share the joy of discovering what will appear under my pen. I made a YouTube channel where I uploaded these,and haven't done anything for promoting it, concentrating on producing content for now. Then I stumbled upon the idea of composing the first introductory story in hyperlapse, so that the viewers can see it unfold before their eyes. The story I was telling at my website was similarly made up on the spot,and only later I started cleaning up the panels and lettering. It spanned over 180 strips,and is an intriguing tale full of mystery,drama, comedy and heartfelt emotions, so I was sure that this was a good thing to create as my "shtick",from the mind of God to the paper. This was the first strip,and it will be flawed and imperfect, but it is a foward journey into the unknown, that undiscovered country called imagination. When the pot ran out in January, so did my enthusiasm, and I decided to ink the first Angry Wedding strip just to be proactive and do something useful instead of sleeping in. Now that I have a handle on producing hyperlapse videos, I will continue with it. But not tonight. I have to be awake in the afternoon to do my taxes,so I will draw something and share it here. Dunno what.

What you're asking for kinda should have been figured out at the thumbnail phase, it a hard thing to fix at this point in the painting, that said, to convey intimacy I'd pull his face closer to her and make his expression more playful. I understand the lady's feelings, but it's hard to read what you're going for with the dude.

Composition wise, for starters, what's the point of all the blank space around them? Just crop that shit real close. Also, extending the canvas and adding their legs would make the picture better.

Depends on your what your goal is. Sure as hell if you search the best artist you know you will feel inadequate forever, I think you should be pretty satisfied with your work. It fits not even half fuck with Ripley style but it's pretty, and professionally done. You could do a portfolio and be hired by a publisher for sure
I myself I wouldn't had reached your point even if I applied myself man. And plus I'm retarded enough to have hoped I could make this a job despite not drawing anything for a decade

It took a week,but I managed to draw. Thanks to a Tease.

I stumbled across a discarded weed jar,and it had enough for a bowlful. And I managed this after smoking it. A work in progress of course. I had a tshirt design in mind,something trendy and marketable that I can peddle in my Etsy store if I ever get it back. Maybe one for myself when its done,simple black and white. I will see where it goes. The Tease made this possible. I can afford to get more marijuana at the end of the week. It IS addictive, like glorious sunsets,like your arms surrounding someone you love,like being under three blankets when the wind is howling with snow outside. I can do without it at need,but life is better with it. Mea culpa.

My life revolves around work and my commute to it. It eats up most of the week,and the 2 hours maximum 3x a week I get to draw on my workdays needs to be productive. Weed helps quickly and conveniently. I cannot value your judgment of that,because getting stuff to paper is the goal,and no opinion matters other than my own.
