forgive my "construction" and schizo lines. sorry for the resolution as well, this is going to end up being a character sprite. i should have done this on a higher resolution canvas beforehand. next time i'll do this
this is awful. luckily with this type of pose i have more than enough references at all angles possible but i am just incompetent. i'm going to have to find a real construction method one of these days

working on my figure drawings

how's this figure of Eugen Sandow look? I think I got some of the angles a bit off. Also I kind of didn't know how to detail the muscles on the legs.

Drawing muscular people feels almost easier sometimes cause there's more short curves and I find those short curves easier than longer ones. Does anyone else find this?

Hello trying at perspective again beg here again

Thank you very much anons for giving the advice and corrections last thread.

Am I understanding the concept now?

1 - Any set of axis meeting at a VP on the same horizon line = placed correctly on the 'plane'
2 - Two of the points should meet at a VP, but only one of them needs to reach the horizon line exactly to maintain the illusion (The second can be sloppy)
3 - This is an entry to 2 point perspective

The book doesnt really explain this image any further, rather it moves onto its next principles.
Am I missing anything this lesson was trying to teach?

I'm that guy who wanted to draw emo art a little while back, I posted a traced version of pic related where I had done so free-hand while it was upside down.
Anyway, I just got my drawing tablet today, it's an old Wacom Intuos 3, managed to get that dirt cheap. It felt amazing to use at first, it's my first tablet, but then I decided to redo the exercise with the same image and it feels immensely harder than doing it with a pencil. Was this an incredibly stupid idea and should I have just stuck to pencil and paper for a while more?
And also, what other lineart would be good for me to practice with? A lot of the pics that I like the style of have a lot of color or detail.

Does this count as chickenscratching? When I try to draw a sphere or circle and usually fuck up the first stroke around, I then do semicircle lines on the half I fucked up on, until I get the circle I’m looking for, then draw the circle I was actually imagining, guiding out of the different lines and then erasing the incomplete ones later.

I know I’m not drawing the full line everytime, it just makes it easier to draw the spheres for heads and balls of stuff.

The shading on the reference was really mild and subtle and I actually did a bit of shading on the sketch that I neglected to translate over into the inked and colored version, so it's my bad either way. Araki has redrawn fucktons of poses from fashion magazines.
Yoshikazu, author of Tsugumomo (pic related), uses 3d models for figures and backgrounds. He is very very skilled and also draws on trad without crutches like this but he says it saves him tons of hours for his very heavy release speed.

How do I get good at drawing? I'm left handed, have perpetually shaky hands, ADHD, autism and a learning disability. 24.

>good pressure curve to start out with

I legitimately don't even know how to do sketch lines. My coordination is so fucked thanks to my autism, I can barely even sketch without even the most basic lines fucking up. I can't visually imagine stuff in my head when I'm actually drawing, and my ADHD just wants me to finish as soon as possible. Use pencil and paper when studying. Learning complete beginner stuff like line control on digital is very counterproductive.

>how to undo bad habits like drawing stiff figures
That's not a bad habit - that's incompetence. Study gesture. Try Vilppu and Proko.

>how to fix shitty lines you're too used to drawing

What.

Hold pencil loosely. Apply low pressure on the paper. Also applies to stylus.

Line control: Peter Han's dynamic sketching videos/exercises
Gesture: Videos by Vilppu, Stan Prokopenko (proko)

If you got a favorite artist or an artstyle you wanna match just do some good effort to copy things you see constantly. If you want to draw characters, doing stuff, draw characters in standalone poses and in scenes involving perspective. If you do that everyday from life, photo ref, or illustration ref, then you'll get there. Problem with art is that its actually 95 percent application and 5 percent conceptual knowledge, so simply absorbing technical knowledge with no application gets mogged by retards with no technical knowledge brute force practicing.

Really? I just discovered Between Friends during the pandemic, but sort of avoided FBOFW, buying Zits books instead. Between Friends is elegant and often wordlessly interesting, whereas FBOFW is closer to being grand commentary, with a large cast of characters.

Do you guys have any advice for drawing an eye shape in 3/4 view?

I feel like I draw them head on fine but when I try to rotate them they look weird.

It's strange cause I was able to draw eyes starting off in a 3/4 view with other stuff, but when I start off in front view and try to rotate it, it fucks up in my head.

7081495

I just remembered a cool trick, and I don't know where else to post it. Here's how you can can color dodge anything evenly. Preventing it from blowing out.

In photoshop, create an invert layer. Then se the invert layer to the color doge blend mode. This should turn everything white.(or *almost*, everything. I'll explain later) I forget how the math works out, since I crunched the numbers years ago. But what it's basically doing, is it's finding the the difference between the lower layer color and white, and then adding *exactly* that amount to reach white, and nothing more.

Now you can control this by adjusting the fill of the layer. And you'll see how it gets that sort of bloomy color dodge look, without blowing out the colors.

If you actually want to paint to pain with it, then create a new normal layer. Fill it black, create a layer mask, but leave the mask white. Then clip this layer to the invert layer. Now, when you paint on the mask with black, it reveals the effect of the invert properly, only where you brushed. With this, you can at very vivid highlights to just about anything.

There is a drawback to this though. The properties of color dodge don't really gel well with fully saturated colors. for example, if you have a color like #3CD400, then color dodge can't move that 00. It will remain 00, no matter how intense the effect is applied. So all three RBG channels have to be at the very least 01. Color dodge can take 01 to white... Buuuut, it still won't blend very good. Even if the colors are near to 00, you will get some crunchy results. In order to avoid pixelation and noticeable banding, then RGB should at minimum have 08, if not a full 10 just to be safe.

Other than that drawback, you still get really pretty results. It maintains a strong saturation, and it hue shifts a reasonable amount, without looking blown out. Try it out.

I used to read and watch the whole /ic/ golden collection of books and courses to get to my shitty level. Making copies of artists you like while implementing knowledge of your fundies was the most useful I think. Being self-taugth artist is hard, because there are no ground under your feet, you just try to get tears of informations from every source you have, and when you try to explain your way of doing something, nobody will understand. Just stick to what they do in academies, it works, but consumes time.

having the bench be level with the eyeline is kinda awkward, and having the ceiling so low makes the whole thing feel cramped with the two poles there. If im assuming this is some kinda bus, either she's really huge or this is a small ass mini bus lmao
if the light is coming from above from that ceiling light, then the lighting should be much different on miku's hair arms and head

I've never read this one, this book killed my will to draw when i was starting. I think the most useful thing in drawing is simplifying hard things to simple forms, just like gestures, and then adding some details. If you can see these forms in real life and get them onto the paper - you're in already. Learning perspective and shading seems more useful for me than ktd. You an get with these with Dynamic Sketching.

draw slower, draw what you see and only use 1 or 2 lines per controur instead of the chicken scratch, also try to draw using one continuous line for as long as you can without raising your pen.

Your line work will improve if you think about this on your next attempt

I would appreciate some help. Some days I am pleased with my progress, but I feel like I desperately need other analyzing eyes to point out my biggest weaknesses, so I know what to work on primarily. you drew her like koreans do: absurdly long legs + big anime head. but in general no proportions are set in stone. younger people have naturally bigger heads compared to the rest of the body and some women legit are 2 meters tall with shorter torso. to avoid uncertainty simply use photo refs of real people
>>7081551
before letting the pencil touch the canvas, try to think for a second: am i looking at the cube from top or bottom? that tells you where horizon is. then you realize VPs are on horizon, so the edges of plane must converge that way. only after all of this you should make a first line of your cube. until then you are just wasting your time. drawing basic geometrical objects should never be a lottery, not even for prepermabegs
