I don't know about videos. Also, I don't draw anime, but I own picrel from many years ago, and it's a great book. It's beginner-friendly and walks the reader through many fundamentals of drawing in a way that is specifically tailored to learning how to draw anime characters. It's very thorough, with pages upon pages of beginner- and intermediate-level drawings critiqued and redrawn by a pro, with tons of notes explaining his thought process. Check it out if you can find a copy. (It's probably been scanned and uploaded somewhere but it would be much more convenient to have an original copy.)

Anime characters are generally just stylised heads on top of anatomically accurate bodies. So just learn how to make anime heads and the rest is the usual figure drawing studies.

I like this take. And I despise the fact that western animation ended up meaning human like heads which exhibit human like emotions and mannerisms on top of unrealistic bodies or even worse animal like bodies that sometimes walk like humans. Anime is just better.

This is also a good book, ignore the ugly cover. It's 192 pages and translated from a Japanese how-to draw book and gives step by step instructions on how to draw different things in an organized curriculum, as well as tips to help motivation and mindset. Great starting point. The PDF is on Anna's Archive.

Anybody tried this book from scratch? How'd you feel you progressed with it?

Working through it right now. Lessons range from how to draw bodies/body parts and faces, to thinking in three dimensions, to simplification of real references, composition and character design basics. Nearly all of the tutorials use female characters but it also explains differences between male and female features. Once I get through it all I'll post my thoughts but I have a good feeling about this so far.
