back in the good ol' days, those kinds of pencils were used, red and blue, because they did not appear in the scanned versions, only the black inks

other than that, its just a different color that will not shock and cause confusion when drawing over it with a harsher and darker color
easier to draw over a light red or blue than black on grey

in painting it adds cool subtle undertones

>learning how to draw human figure from memory/imagination
Don't. You don't have required visual library yet. As I said, draw simpler figures from references and then study anatomy in depth to burn human figure into your memory. You are wasting time, trying to guess anatomy you don't know and fuck up every single time. You are drawing sausages instead of people again. You don't know even the most basic piece of anatomy - placement of the ribcage and pelvis. They are like 1 meter apart in your pictures. If you want to waste time - continue to headbutt the wall, hoping you will conjure up knowledge of figure drawing from thin air. But if you want to get good, spend at least 2 months only drawing gestures and figures from references. There are thousands of references on /ic/ torrent and many books and courses on figure drawing.
You are simply delusional if you think keeping whatever you are doing will make you progress.

you need to check proportions more: e.g.: bottom left of the nose is not below the left eye, and the left pupil is not perfectly round, ther latter is a big beg mistake.

You draw the orthogonal lines first so you can just place a square at any depth and it'll be in perspective with the first. Use a ruler for the orthogonal lines so you know they're right. If your first square is crooked it still works, but your back square needs to be the same kind of crooked square.

Hey bros, /beg/ here learning shading. Tried hatching and linework with a dip pen over a pencil sketch. Hatching was interesting, but linework with the pen felt very uncomfortable and my lines were shaky, not sticking to the pencil marks. I feel like dip pens only work properly on downward-facing motions so I have to twist my hand into uncomfortable angles a lot for any curve. Also often cant see where it's going because it gets in between my eyes and the pencil lines. As you can see theres plenty of line mistakes. I guess its just not as forgiving of shaky hands as a pencil is. Maybe I should switch to my Wacom and use the stabilizer?

Any advice?

Drawing on the right side of the Brain. Do that first. Then do DrawABox until lesson 3 or 4. Those two treat you like a retarded baby and will handhold you from absolutely zero ability, all the way up to having enough skill that you can go on to learn from other resources. They’ll give you the ability to draw what you actually see and not what you think you see (step zero of drawing) and then teach you the basics of holding and using a pen/pencil, drawing with your whole arm, making marks, and construction/feeling the form. So once you can see, draw what you see, and construct, you can learn anything.

The problem here is you're doing a Loomis head but you don't understand why you're doing a Loomis head. You're just making lines. Why go through the trouble of measuring something and then just freehanding it anyways? They call them "guidelines" for a reason.

It doesn't really matter how long it takes as long as you accomplish your vision. You'll get better/faster sketches with time and experience. Just don't spend two hours redrawing the same line.

Or you look at what you've made, figure out what you don't like, look up how to fix those, practice them, and then you do that until you're good. No you're not going to work at Disney, you don't want to work at Disney.

No one is going to show you sympathy, no one is going to give you the perfect roadmap, you draw what you like and you improve it, you study it, you keep drawing it, as much as it hurts, and you don't stop.

We all suck for a long time, I suck, you suck, sucky suckky fuck suck, keep drawing, keep thinking about drawing, read books about drawing. Read the sticky. Don't mope, ask questions, keep drawing. Keep working at it. Keep drawing. Get depressed, get it out of you. Keep drawing.

First of all watch the video I linked. Second of all can you really not draw a line connecting two points? I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you're just stupid and don't understand what you're supposed to be doing, but if you really can't draw a line connecting two points then practice doing that or use a ruler.

First few lessons of Drawabox are purely line exercises. Make sure to follow the directions exactly, use your whole arm remember to ghost the lines.

I want you to know I genuinely do not comprehend what your issue is. You draw a square then connect the corners to the vanishing point, how hard is that? I have to assume you're just doing it wrong.

0p - the x and y axis are traced to paper, this is a 1:1 reflection of reality, there's no z axis because the 2d plane has only 2 axes
1p - the z axis is added, it's lines converge to a single point
2p - another converging point is added on the x axis, this causes the y axis to be distorted linearly based on it's proximity to the vanishing point. This setup can be rotated, the vanishing point can be placed on the y axis causing the x axis to be distorted
3p - another vanishing point is added causing the other axis to distort
4p - a second vanishing point is added, it's not possible for both the x and y axis converge to 4 vanishing points without one of them distorting spherically (there's one more vanishing point than there are dimensions). This setup can be rotated too
5p - as I understand it the fifth vanishing point is behind the viewer, this causes both the x and y axis to distort spherically
6p - both the 5p and 6p actually have 6 vanishing points, the difference is that the vanishing points placed on the z axis are now displaced (they're not directly in front and behind the viewer) this causes all the planes to distort spherically even the z axis. To put it simply, all 6 cardinal directions have their own vanishing point now (north, south, east, west, up and down)

Note: The lenght of the z dimension actually has nothing to do with the number of vanishing points, it's only correlated to how far apart the vanishing points are placed

a good way to start is looking at other artists with similar artstyle to yours or artstyles you'd like to emulate, and try to see how do they do it.

I think you are drawing what you think you know about hands, or at least that's what I get from those fingers and wrists. Also it feels that your only tool right now is outlining and this will only give you a hard time, you need to start working in some kind of shading in your toolbox this will make your experience more enjoyable.

for the first part start studying basic proportions of the hand and bones since the hand has a lot of subcutaneous bones. Attached are some notes I made a month ago, but do your own study.

and for the second part, start copying works from other artists you like, watteau did some easy to read hands and are available on common wiki.

Keep going, you are doing great.

My line control is fine. Pic rel is a study. I did a lot of this on my finger with an IPad and then transitioned to a stylus so yeah, it does look pretty rough. My goal was to just show the muscle connections via drawing a skeleton first to show how much simpler it is with a better foundation

The reference I was using for the vacuum crotch had the hands disappearing, that was the effect I wanted from the start, but I'll admit I didn't pull it off as well as the reference. Not to mention the actual drawings get visibly worse the higher the 'mastery,' because the original artist really has no idea how to draw what he's purporting to be a master of. The perspective on the 5th image is terrible and the details he's choosing to highlight in the final image make her look very unappealingly like a segmented insect.

99% of people that can draw don't use it. It's not that they don't use it because they are good, they are good because they don't use it. They don't do it to save time, if they were putting in their absolute best they still wouldn't use it. Look at mangaka sketches, digital artist timelapses, whatever you want

Thanks for the study sheet.

You are right I was mainly outlining the hands, though also constructing certain fingers as cylinders hence the contour lines you could sometimes see.

I feel the bottom right and top left were the best hands I was able to draw in terms of accuracy, but they were all awkward as hell to draw and I need more experience with it.

Also I am not focusing on shading much at the moment, focusing on sketching, I am 27 and only started properly drawing back in September after all so I want to focus on being able to actually construct sketch things at the moment.
