Whats a good method to draw, i dont want to draw professionally or anything just for fun but everytime i try to draw something i always end up disliking it and lose alot of motivation and feel like im not making any progress, whats the best way to learn to draw?

Idk right now I do, 2 fun drawings ---> 5 gesture drawings ---> 3 pages from books ---> 2 fun drawings ---> 2 head drawings ---> repeat. I've drawn for 14 days in a row now and I'm actually having fun and getting better so it feels pretty good. Fun drawings is me just drawing whatever I want to draw.

I find drawing to be the single most unintuitive skill in existence by a pretty significant margin. Depicting things using lines does not come naturally to me in any way, and it baffles me that it's something humans can do at all. What could be less intuitive than an inherently abstract visual art?

Other visual arts are intuitive because there is an obvious link between my intended subject and my work. I can borrow things from the subject, and use it as a reference to see where I'm going. I don't get that when trying to draw. My subject and work feel almost entirely disconnected, so I end up just fiddling around aimlessly, getting nowhere, and learning nothing.

Through pain and suffering
All artistic geniuses are marked by extreme neuroticism and those who are of a very high artistic level are just same
If you're lucky you'll be one of the autieHD souls who is also marked by extreme extraversion
Neuroticism = feeling bad dark feelings very strongly
Extraversion = feeling good bright feelings very strongly
Autistic people and most ADHD people = feel both feelings very strongly, the good and the bad
I have a nasty feeling however that the absolute pinnacle of artistic power comes from unadulterated darkness where there is nothing but suffering inside you and no light to blind your eyes to beauty at all

Okay, forget all the usual tripe peddled on this board. Fundamentals, copying, gesture, whatever. Forget it. Whatever it is you'd like to draw, pick some manageable subset of that to focus on, and then draw that.

Keep drawing that thing. Discover tricks and shortcuts. Get comfortable drawing that thing. Now, start branching out again. Learn fundamentals, read books, and whatever. When you feel like shit because something new isn't the way you want it, just draw your comfortable thing for a while.

People on this board pretend they and others are robots, and it's really unhealthy. And likely to drive all the non-autists out of the hobby. Make some part of this hobby something you like. Make a safe harbor for you to return to whenever the rest sucks. This is a hobby. You are under no time pressure. Stop listening to people who tell you that you absolutely must grind 14 hours of perspective today.

What is drawing other than pen control which accurately depicts an object as you observed it or which you’ve envisioned in your mind? So clearly drawing is just the combined use of three different skills: penmanship, hand-eye coordination, and visualization. Work on these things and you’ll become a good artist.

Draw what you like (games, animation etc) and search alot sbout it, youtube can be useful if you dont have patience for books and proper long tutorials.
Do basic general studies (anatomy, gesture, perspective, color theory etc) on the site.
>>7041868
You are making a basic beginner mistake here on your base perception on what art is.
Art is not about depicting things with lines, art is about depicting things with shapes. Once you learn to view your surroundings as literal squares, circles and triangles it will be way easier for you to put it on paper.

Now pick up that pen and go draw.

It's the difference between drawing with a purpose and without a purpose.
I guess it's just something out of your fundamentals and critical eye you acquire inevitably, but every time you draw, you need to understand what you are doing or at least try to.
The example i gave of drawing with reference its particularly useful because you start to "get" what was other more experienced artists steps to make a particular piece, that however only if you understand or try to understand what you are doing.
Basically what i mean by understanding is just the process of learning, if you want to learn what is in a math book you dont just skim through the book copying the questions and using chatgpt to answer for you, you need to actually read and understand the information.

About your other question on books. i was mostly self-taught (aside from one specialized art class 5 years ago), so i dont know many good books specifically about this.

You can change your brain. Start with a dopamine fast. Get rid of everything that gives you easy pleasure such as social media, videogames, porn, etc. Possibly even tasty foods. Spend your days doing boring shit like literally looking at a wall for hours.
Essentially become a monk. It will be painful and unbearable at first, but I assure you that it will fix your brain. For some people it takes days, for some it takes months, but it will gradually improve your ability to focus to the point where you'll essentially be "healed".
THEN, and only then, you can start reintroducing the fun stuff, as you'll hopefully be able to practice moderation and not let them regain control over your dopaminergic reward system.
Good luck.
