The closer = thicker and thicker on focused lines is true, also outside lines being thicker over inside lines... then you add lines in shadow are thicker than lines that are in the light, then you layer on top personal preference. Ambient occlusion is a term for 3D graphics. I guess you could apply it to 2D art. Its also not that esoteric of a term. Bizarre how people itt are getting upset over it.
Also the triangles thing seems like a /beg/ trap. Hentai and manga artists vary their line weight heavily and use it to convey shadows. Where hard lines meet or overlap they tend to thicken. To convey softness such as with cleavage the lines get super thin and even disappear.
Dumbing it all down to "just add triangles" is tiktok tier art advice that may make your art look "better" short term but isn't actually helping you connect what you see to what you draw. Its building a bad habit.

Yes, yes, but at the end of the day, the flat 2D shapes are what's important. If thinking of things in terms of shape placement yields better results than focusing on how accurately the drawing reflects reality, then you're better off focusing on that. Unless you're going for pure photographic realism, if you're drawing something and noticing a graphic shape or clear curve, you're better off leaning into that and pushing it than worrying if everything is exactly accurate.

Line art isn't real in reality, it represent the contour of the forms. Anything that goes "further" around a form is where you place these lines. Many forms that overlap each other adds "weight" to those lines, making them darker and bolder.

The only way to get good at construction is to draw from life and apply what you learned in your drawings from imagination.
It doesn't matter how you go about doing this. Wether you spend a day a week dedicated to studies or you do hours here and there. What matters is consistency. You will face many challenges but if you perservere you won't ask any more stupid questions about "how they do it?" Or make claims that "they're just innately more talented".
You'd understand what I'm talking about.

Ambient occlusion is just the term for something that does not have any direct light source. It can take any fucking shape you could imagine because all it is is an unlit area. Cracks, folds and whatever else that light won't easily penetrate.
And yes these are BASIC terms you should understand if your goal is to become a good artist.
