You DO practice drawing from imagination often, right /ic/? You don't want to end up like Proko, do you?

how did he fail so hard, all he had to do was draw a humanoid shape and exagerate some features

it's been 6 years, what does proko's imagination drawings look like now?

When you draw nothing but naked people for 99% of your professional career, what type of visual library would you expect to have?

you can see how much his skills helped him when he was tasked with drawing something for the first time.

I like Proko, but he feels like someone that memorized all the rules and principles, but due to his lack of creativity he doesn't do anything WITH his art.

He never practiced the skill?

>>7022058
Lack of training; he also has a art teaching business, there's only that many hours in a day, especially when you have a family/kid.

Daily reminder that he tried to draw a dog. Not a frog, not a kangaroo, a God damn dog.
It was only after he fucked up that he leaned on the Kangaroo idea.

Just like Kim Jung Gi, God tier art skills but /beg/ when it comes to creativity.

He drew everything from imagination. That's what he was known for!

>> No.7022371

>>7022356
He drew everything from memory and he drew from life all the time. Everything he did is only impressive if you're a beglet otherwise you shouldn't care and use references like a real professional.
KJG used to be a manhwa artist and that's far more interesting than the crap he drew on his notebooks, and I mean literal crap like that woman taking a dump or the colored shit all over her.

>> No.7022376

I like how he took our meme and ran with it.

Proko can draw a complex figure from imagination. He's never drawn a kangaroo before so naturally he'd suck at it. The biggest epiphany I had about art was that its not a singular skillset like many things in life. A guy can be a great animal artist for years but sucks at drawing landscapes because he never drew one.

jeez wtf is creativity... Kim seems creative to me, maybe I'm beg in creativity too. he's a comic artist, wtf is expected of him to be considered good in that regard? any specific examples?

>> No.7022449

I'm more on the other end of the spectrum where I spend too much time doodling from imagination and not enough studying references.

His brain is wired in approaching drawing and painting in a formulaic way. It can be dealt with but requires more effort that necessary, it's still worth it, and it'd make sense for him, Norman Rockwell managed to pull it off because he really wanted to make things appealing. The trick to start is by not trying to do the bare minimum to sell a shitty drawing course and actually try to share something by really struggling while applying the fundamentals on design and sharing how you broke them or made them work towards your goals, you can tell he has no experience with that, he's just doing things he read without adding his own sauce to the recipe.
It doesn't help that he seems capable of much more when you see his paintings and figure drawings + the courses, but you look at this and feel underwhelmed, as in "fuck this art shit is hopeless".
