How old is he supposed to be exactly? I think the crows feet, details on the nose, forehead and brow-line might be aging him a bit more than intended, but he's still pretty handsome methinks if that's what you're going for. I guess it just boils down to the age he's supposed to be and how he looks compared to the other characters.

If you want to know a femanons perspective i'd say less sharp angular facial figures would make him sexier, even better if you gave him more muscular physique to balance the hairiness. For the longest time I've only drawn cute girls. But recently I've had the desire to draw handsome dudes. When I attempted to draw one I had truly been humbled. Turns out the rules I've learned for drawing feminine moe blobs can not be applied for drawing masculine chads and brads. What's the secret? Hey guys I was hoping to get your opinion on a something. Does this character read as male? I mean, he's meant to look like a soft brat but ideally not to be mistaken as an actual girl.

Is there anything I should change to emphasize this if I'm not pulling it off? Any general rule of thumb I should be following? I really don't want to fall in to the 'draw a girl, call it a boy' trap.

Gonna be honest, from the thumbnail I immediately thought it was a female. I think the exaggerated proportions your going for isn't helping your case. It's not only the proportions of the figure but their whole pose and demure come across as stereotypical feminine. I'd say you can keep the upper body as it is, but maybe slim down their proportions down below, make the hip less noticeable.
However if your purpose was drawing a femboy then you can leave it as it is.
I also don't get any brat vibe from this.
Maybe I'm not used to the style, but it looks likes he has a sideway witch nose.

In the midst of study, haven't emerged out of the knowledge hump yet, but i feel that as you are studying, reading, drawing, you'll feel inspired. Through work your style will shine, doing the same shit over and over again reduces style because it's meaningless. With greater skill maybe you'll have more to do with your style. You also don't have to stick with one style, or mode of rendering or sketching. I'm not sure what my style is, but as much as it is a personal expression, it is also a personal choice, you have to pick a direction for yourself.

I really feel you. My sketches are insanely messy, my eraser tool is just as important as my pen. I'm remedying this by studying, so I can be more confident in what I draw, because all of my "refining" is actually just Altering the sketch, instead of making a quick sketch with conscious choice.

Is there a specific approach you have to studying? I did some Hogarth studies but the dude has so much detail that it gets a little overwhelming lol. I guess right now I'm trying to get into the mindset of doing it (almost) every day so it's more natural.
I do a lot of digital so I really need to put down the eraser. The iterative, painterly approach seems to really get fucky when you wanna do line drawings. Maybe sticking to new layer passes of linework is better.

To answer your question, you want to draw people, so you should study the foundations of human beings- their bones, their skin, how we move, and so on.
Styles are not chosen. There's reality, then there is the abstract, and then there is expression (art). Styles come and go, it's less about what you're trying to make, but rather how your hand moves, the individual strokes you make. Two people can draw the same human being, or the same anime girl, and the reason their drawings differ can be found within their individuality. Their mistakes, their strengths, and their transformation of reality when put on a canvas, is their style.
I've written and rewritten what I think style is, the difference between awkward and ugly art, the difference between stylization and simplification and if they can be separated, or if one is contained within the other, but I don't think any of it can be said with confidence. Your style exists whether you like it or not.
I believe that you don't see your style because you don't think it's enough, or you only see your style in your flaws, when every stroke you make is your style. But you're grasping for something more, you want to draw a person, but you want it to be yours- but oh, not like that!
Study anatomy, not other artists finished works, it doesn't help you understand their thought process. Perspective, color/light (Both are equally important imo), and anatomy are your best friends.
Personally I'm reading Stonehouse's Anatomy. When I am done, I can choose what I want to simplify, what I want to emphasize, with greater confidence. The rest is up to me, my strokes, my choices. Style is both chosen and given. Life journey or whatever.

I've still got a lot of anatomy to study and for lazy days to make up for. Might pick up the Stonehouse book.
Honestly, it wasn't really a specific style I was having problems with. It was moreso adapting stuff like life drawing to a simpler, cartoony result. Finding a way to draw a closed whole quickly instead of dwelling on the details and constantly going over the design for way too long.
