If you are a /int/ermediate or /beg/inner in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

>TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction
to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help.
When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

Remember:
before criticising any of my work I post, I will require this information about you
1. your full name - name and surname
2. the address of your current residence
3. the address of your workplace
4. your marital status and the name of your spouse, if any
5. your annual wage, before and after tax
6. your license plate
7. your place of birth
8. the names of your parents
9. your credit card number and the expiration date
and finally you MUST post your work.
If but one of these points is not met, or, if I am unable to find a Wikipedia page about you, that matches the information you have given, that lists you as a prominent artist in any artistic field, all your critique directed towards me or my work is invalid and actually the opposite of what you say is true and my work is perfect and devoid of any mistakes.
Also, when you do criticise my work, you can not use any word included in the following list because your post will automatically get filtered by my automatic filtering system. You must treat me like a toddler when you criticise my work or I will cry.

Haha I see it, I think the telephone poles being his same height along with the bushes looking a little bit like trees is making him look massive. I don't think anything is literally wrong I think it's just like forced perspective. It took me quite a while to realize that was meant to be a faucet lol, I thought he was kneeling on the ground.

>>6989579
I made the whole foreground darker than the character to seperate it from him
Maybe try bringing the bushes into focus by showing some of the leaves fully? Not rendering the whole bush, but showing a few in clearer focus to let the reader get a sense of scale, and try to draw the sink out more in terms of darks and lights. Metal is very shiny :^)
The character looks super nice btw!

You need a reason behind the boxes. Try stacking them like cardboard or wood boxes or drawing a simple city. Drawing a entire scene will help more than anything. You get perspective, texture, shadow, highlight, background details like the walls and floor. Exercise everything and you'll improve with speed.

ADHD is a meme because there is no disorder, you aren't suffering, you're just lazy and lacking character. You're not reading it because you probably don't even draw, you just like to think about it. Fuck you draw and read. Anyone i've seen who actually Suffers from symptoms of adhd has a load of problems that can explain them. Adhd isn't real, it's a symptom, it's a characteristic. Okay, lads, here's my situation:
>about 2 years slowly learning how to draw
>progressed well this year because I started attending in person classes
>can draw some okay stuff on /trad/, but horrible on digital

I bought a used Huion H1161 tablet on a sale here but I can't figure it out, I'm just too inaccurate with my lines.
I'm on vacation from university till March, so I wnted to do a figure drawing (I'm thinking on Eviston or Vilppu) and a digital drawing course. I know that's not a lot of time, but I want something that could at least put me on the right track in 2 months.
Thing is, there are just too many digital drawing/painting coursesand I don't know which to choose. Do you guys have any recommendations of general digital courses that worked for you, especially in getting used to screenless tablets? Bonus points for ones avaliable online (poorfag).
Here's an OC lady I sketched the other day.

My problem is that I don't even know the fundamentals. I've wanted this for six years and have never been able to even start working towards this goal. I stuck with writing when I was a kid because I thought I'd never be good at drawing. Now I regret how much time I've utterly wasted. Now I want to get back all the skill I could have learned all these years. I don't even know what artist I want to copy or what I want to do. I just want to reach a tolerable skill level. Literally anything. But I fucking can't. I just want to become a digital artist like I've wanted to for years now.

Don't try to be good at everything quickly, focus on one thing, like this other anon >>6989719 your focus should be on what you WANT to draw, if you want to draw really hot bitches shooting guns you're going to want to get good at anatomy, perspective, and flow (composition), depending on your medium you'll do it differently obviously, but if you're both going for lineart comic-style cell shading then focus on that first, get the lineart to be readable, proportions correct, and then top it off with some color theory, just basic stuff.

You can focus on shading and anatomy once you understand proportion and color theory, you can't jump straight to anatomy because you'll fall into the artist trap of "drawing by muscle group" where the muscles are well defined but entirely atrophied, as though your character has no bones. If you want a clear example, look at Rob Liefeld's art (lineart, not the colors, which are done by other people): the muscles might be anatomically correct, but the proportions are all wonky, the muscles overlap each other and push themselves apart in unnatural ways because his focus was entirely on anatomy and not on proportions, you can also see that perspective fucks him up because he does not understand foreshortening, giving his characters massive or minute hands.

I hit my 3 Month mark today, so here's a look back and everything I did over the course of Month 2

As far as personal thoughts go, I think i'm making decent progress, overall could have done many things better, been more diligent, did more practices, but ultimately I'll just have to reflect on those mistakes and learn from them for this month

I've also been doing better as far as detaching myself from my art, where I don't feel like i'm constantly comparing myself to others, nor do I feel as bad as I used to when I see another new learner doing way better than me

Overall, good month, happy that I'm keeping to drawing and I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas! I hope 2024 goes well for myself and everyone here with our art studies.

Also the first few days are super pixelated, I think I made them too small when I was making the collaboration image, i've been doing it in MS Paint and frankly I need to find a better method

Depends what are you trying to draw?

Pick a subject and draw that at multiple angles, if your drawing is bad break it down into smaller sections and learn how to draw parts of it and put the parts together. Practice without any references, then copy photo reference, then do sets with memory,

Draw an amount that you can stick to as a bare minimum every day, if it's 5 drawings than do 5 if it's 1 then so be it but do not skip any days, do this for 2 months and compare day 1 to day 60

You'll see improvement.

Let me blogpost a little. So I regret not spending more time on digital as a beg. In retrospect I wasted a lot of money on art supplies and time on watching reviews from fucking retards that talk 1 hour about a product with no conclusion. It dawned on me after spending relatively lot of money on starter supplies for watercolor, that even though I spent a lot of money, my supplies are still considered subpar, and I need to spend more for "the real deal", because cheap stuff will hinder me (the tools are fun to use but still). Whereas a non-screen tablet will pleasure me in every imaginable way for a small cost, FOREVER. Fuck this bullshit. I don't even know what I am doing, yet I have to spend all this effort and also fight against the material. And use expensive stuff just to produce shit beg drawings. In retrospect I should have used digital, its cheap, no-bullshit, and effective.

I willTry a different aproach on how to improve.
Just the neck thing. The rest can be chalked up to stile or squishysquashy of the body (for now atleas)

What I do(you might benefit from a different method) is
I determine where my torso is looking.
I "xray the toracic spine"
>All ribs connect to the toracic spine
>all toracal vertebrae have a pair of ribs.
I determine where the 1st (highest) toracic vertebrae is.
I draw the cervical spine from there, using cranial units with a lil bit of eyeballing it.
The exact way my cervical spine points depends on the headposition i want.

I add the superior (upper)traps .
They basicslly originate (im simplifying) from the skull where it conects with the neck.
Along the cervical spine
And ends at the spina scapulae and the lateral third of the clavicle.
I add sternocleidomastoideous using my neck as repherence. Add the trachea.
Voila.

I get your frustration, but I personally do not think experimenting with different tools and materials is a waste. Maybe you could've done so more effectively, but I actively try to use different tools now as I improve.
You can improve more much cheaper digitally, but as someone who's had a drawing tablet for a whole and have practiced digitally in the past, I find sketchbooks a lot more useful and satisfying.
This is personal preference of course and coming from different perspectives, and that's something you might benefit from remembering. All these artists telling you what to do and what not to do are giving a perspective, it does not necessarily mean it's guaranteed to work. You just have to trust in the process.

Choosing colours is something I'm terrible at, however I think you might want to try simplifying your colour pallet for a drawing like this one. bro wtf
you need like 2 pencils (buy 2 each)
one HB and one 9b or 8b for easier values
charcoal costs like 50 cents for a pack which lasts a LONG time
a fountain pen is like 10 bucks if you want a gucci one, if you go with cheapest you can get like 5 for that money
enough ink to last until doomsday costs like 3 bucks
paper turns out to be most expensive for trad because you'll go through sketchbooks like mad so just get printing paper and for your more serious studies use a paper that's a bit more gucci
whole trad setup costs 30 euros
and once you start painting a waterbrush, a few normal brushes and a pack of watercolors is also like 10 bucks total
Art is as cheap as you want it to be just don't be a fag about it and buy shit you don't use, master the tools you get first and then slowly slowly expand as you get good

Alright so what I want you to start paying attention to is shapes and the angles of your pencil strokes.

When you observe a thing you want to draw, ask yourself exactly what angle the line should be, don't let your brain fill in an easy shape, observe it with your eyes. Notice in your drawing how far her left arm bends outward, compare the to the reference, this is likely because you knew that a bend was there, and you made a stroke without thinking about the angle it needed to be.

Another thing is the head was too small, try sketching very roughly the full height of the subject before going into detail, especially on a traditional medium.

What is the best /beg/ painting book? I downloaded many, but they totally omit the basics of the actual painting itself. I want something like the YouTube videos that explain that painting is about cutting shapes, shape design, big-medium-small etc. All painting books treat the reader like he already knows what he's doing.

So I'm working on drawing in a 3/4 position

thing is I'm not really sure how to shade something in this position.

In particular the leg that he's leaning on has some weird shading that I'm not sure how to do, and I feel like there should be more shading on his face but his beard takes up a lot of it so I'm not sure

Any ideas?
