As somewhat of a /his/ aficionado, it's refreshing to see a shota artist incorporating historically-inspired costumes and props into their pieces.

While looking at this couple of pictures, I can't help but to be instantly reminded of the aesthetic sensibilities of 70's shojo manga, specifically the works of Moto Hagio and Keiko Takemiya (pic related).

The only nitpick I have is that, although the features of your character's face look nice when taken individually, their placement ends up giving it a bit too much of an elongated appearance for my taste.

Personally, I feel that if you made his nose slightly shorter, and then reduced the size of his philtrum area, as well as that of his chin (therefore making the shape of his face more round), your shota would look even cuter.

Nice to see a fellow debushota appreciator. Since this work shows promise, I'll be thorough with my critique. Hopefully it won't come off as harsh.

First, the most glaring issue: the lower half of your shota's face is misaligned in relation to the vertical axis of his head. While the upper features are placed in a manner that accurately conveys the intended 3/4 view, the nose and mouth appear instead to be oriented according to a near-profile one. As a result of this discrepancy, the already noticeable prognathism of your character ends up being accentuated much more, to the point that he resembles a "gelfling".

This flaw, however, can be mostly solved by placing both the nose, mouth, and chin further to the left, until the center of the upper lip coincides, more or less, with the vertical axis of your shota's head.

The second problem: your character's chin is a bit too small. Conventionally (in terms of realistic proportions), the lower lip should rest at a middle point between the base of the nose and the bottom of the chin.

Apart from these shortcomings, you are definitely on the right track. Your sense of volume, in particular, is noteworthy: the arms, moobs, and belly of your shota really pop up from the screen. And those hands are exquisite.

Lastly, for the sake of anatomy improvement, I would suggest that you take a good look at the putti/cherubs that occasionally appear in the works by Michelangelo and Bronzino.

Underscoring what I said previously, I find the heads of your shotas to be delectable. You're still clearly wearing Draugnut's influence on your sleeve, but no one can really blame you for that (if anything, it's a testament to your good taste).

The main nitpick I have is that, in at least a couple of instances (one of them being this piece), there has been a character with one or more of his facial features slightly askew.

In this picture, for example, although I really like the way in which you rendered the eyes, the placement of the one closer to the viewer is a bit higher than it should be in relation to his head's horizontal axis. The discrepancy can be spotted if you focus on the outlines of both upper eyelids, as well as on the shading under the eyebrows.

Another problem is that the furthermost eye is leaning a bit too much towards the left (you can notice it if you compare the curvatures of the ocular globes, along with the angles of inclination of the irises).

In your foursome picture, the issues are a bit subtler, but if one zooms in on the face of the brown-haired shota, one can see that the iris of the foreground eye is leaning slightly more towards the left than the one of its counterpart.

But a more pressing flaw is the angle of the mouth, specifically that of his teeth/maxilla. Just imagine the skull under your shota's face, and you'll get what I mean.

Apart from that, while the anatomy of your torsos, arms, and legs is quite nice, your depictions of the pelvic/groin area still need some work. As I see it, the main problem with your nude figures is that there's not enough space between their navels and their crotches.

Congratulations on successfully channeling your inner Garabatoz. The shaking lines and motion blurs really help selling those "plaps".

The following is more an issue of personal taste, but, when it comes to the shapes of cartoony shota boners, I prefer them to resemble sausages instead of thumbs, i.e., to look cylindrical rather than conical.

Furthermore, the addition of some slight oval roundness near the tip of the boner to suggest the glans would be sure to increase two-fold its level of succulence. Think of the glans as the cherry on top of a cupcake.

I would also suggest that, in order to highlight the volume (and roundness) of Lincoln's foreground testicle, you add either a little curve or a bit of hatching at the base of his penis. That would make his balls look plumper, and, therefore, more cuppable/suckable.

It's all for the shotas' sake. Given that I took a long break from /ic/, I was unaware of this thread until recently, so I'm kinda compensating for the late attendance. I hope that some of my advice ends up being actually useful for at least one drawanon.

Regarding this piece, bashful expression + cute hard pp is always a winning combo.

There is, however, an issue with the proportions of the torso, specifically with the size of the ribcage: the latter, although nicely constructed, is a bit too short, so that its missing length ends up being added instead to the waist area.

This ribcage problem, in turn, makes the chest of your character appear too small, given that there's not enough space above the nipples.

Following conventional proportions, the nipples should rest at a distance of approximately 1 head below the chin, so that they align, more or less, with the bottom of the deltoid muscles (i.e., the round volumes of the shoulders).

Therefore, the distance from the clavicles to the bottom of the ribcage should be almost the same as that between the top of the head and the clavicles:

Apart from that, my only other nitpick would be that the linework of your shota's hair is a bit too chicken-scratchy, which ends up giving it a frizzy and disheveled appearance. In order to better fit the vintage shojo vibe, your strokes should instead be flowy and ornamental, almost as if you were doing calligraphy (pic related).

To use a(nother) pastry comparison, I think that a helpful way of approaching this issue would be to visualize the whole mass of hair as if it were frosting on a cake, specifically of the sort that is applied using piping bags:

In the way of critique, my suggestion is that you double-check the eyes of your shota (there's some discrepancy between them regarding shape and size), as well as the alignment of his shoulders (the one on the right is placed significantly higher than its counterpart).

Mistakes of this sort can be more easily detected if you flip your canvas every now and then, so that you can look at your work with fresher eyes. In the case of hand-drawn pieces, you can use a small mirror to achieve the same effect. It's a method that even some pros use:

Also, since it's better to be safe than sorry, I heartily recommend that you spend a bit of extra time detailing the construction of your faces. Specifically, to make sure that the features remain symmetrical and consistent, I think that your faces would benefit a lot from the inclusion of some basic geometric planes while you're sketching them, even if your depictions fall on the more manga/cartoony territory, given that said planes would also be useful guides for when you need to apply shading.

There are as many methods of head construction and planar simplification as there are art instructors (the Asaro's model and its variations being among the most popular), but the Loomis' one is perhaps the easiest to understand, as well as the most versatile:

Now that's one dashing "petit-maître". He kinda reminds me of the male cast of the "Interview with the Vampire" movie.

If I had to recommend any adjustment, it would just be that you make his eyes slightly bigger, so that they better match the more manga style of your shota's face, but that's just me being extra finicky.

Besides that, the luxuriousness of the setting and its furnishings is simply delightful. In fact, judging by the works that you have shared on the thread, making detailed colored backgrounds is among your strongest suits.

Are these characters of yours more akin to costumed models, or have you developed names and backstories for them?

Thanks very much! My shota's name is Leonard and he is a servant for the guy behind him who is named Shay. They do have more elaborate backstories and I plan to eventually draw a comic with them in it. At the moment though I'm in the middle of writing a script for a comic focused on two different characters in the same universe and it's going very slowly haha
