Well, in the meantime, in addition to finishing my bat girl ref, I'm trying to work on something for a friend. Also some tips for your grammer:

-Say "If I draw" instead of "If I drawing". the suffix "-ing" doesn't work with that sentence.
-Saying "can I'm call myself" also doesn't make sense. It's pretty much saying "can I am call myself". Instead, drop the "m" and just use "I".

Good luck with your english, and try to have a nice day!

Thanks anon. I’m using procreate, with the default sketch brush “peppermint”. Most of my sketches are done on the same layer, and a lot of the dark areas were done by selecting the area I wanna fill, then just filling it in with the side of the stylus. (This can also probably be achieved by just maximizing the brush size, and lowering the opacity on other programs). Same with cleaning up my lines. I use the selection tool, and erase the unwanted lines. Gives it a clean look, without having to redraw on another layer.

No one seems to bat an eye. But now that you point it out, his skill is very derivative of other popular artists. I don't want to assume someone is using AI, but...

This is a contradiction. AI generation is wholly separate from your skill as an artist. Photobashing takes skill, thought, and personal input. Hell, so does tracing. Image generation takes a button press, and some luck, as an algorithm someone else wrote does the thing. At best, it replaces your skill. At worst, it perverts it.

Personally, I think images made using AI in any way, shape, or form, have no merit as art at all.

I think that some elements are a bit weird, like they don't belong.

The door, walls and furniture give a feeling of wonky perspective.
The shadows on the dress are very harsh compared to the rest.
At last, the snowman looking at the window despite not being in front of it, gives the feeling that it is a painting on the wall, rather than a window.

What is in the foreground is fine overall. Keep it up!

yeah I think I didn't have a solid horizon line to begin with, I gotta start constructing a grid before laying down objects in my sketches.
For the snowman and clothing I still have issues rendering materials in similar styles to my characters, I think that might have to do with some of the weirdness, I'm hoping a few copy studies might help with that since I haven't really done any in quite a while.
Thanks for the crits overall!

Honestly if you're looking to get good gesture pose references, use something like https://app.justsketch.me or one of those more articulated posing mannequins you can get online.
Stiff wooden ones are very limited in their capacity for movement and are more useful for construction practice than gesture drawing.

I've never made a comic or anything, so I'm just coming at this as a comic reader. Your artwork is very solid, but I think it would really help if you structured your pages in actual panels with an intended flow between them. It's hard to explain, but the borderless images just feel off to me, like I'm looking at multiple art pieces and not a story. And unless you already planned to do it on the cover sheet, you might want to have a bigger lead up by using an establishing shot of the setting so the reader can mentally imagine the scenes as you tell the story. Based on your work, I think you have the ability to make a very good comic, it's just the flow and structure that needs some work, imo. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Thank you very much! I’m a big fan of the old techniques myself so I’ve been meaning to do this for a while. The painting process reminded me of why I haven’t yet. I’m not great with acrylic. Also trying to take a picture of something with a reflective surface isn’t fun either hahaha.

You’re clearly no slouch yourself. I know it’s a small detail, but I appreciate the clothing physics on display here. It’s something you often see neglected.

>> No.6987056

I don’t think it’s too hard to tell them apart. The bold outlines help in making objects distinct. But if this doesn’t satisfy, then yeah I’d say lower the saturation of the background a touch.

I just got a tablet last week and took the first step in trying to do digital art. can anyone tell me if this anatomy work is off and if so what parts? I feel like I REALLY struggle when trying to decide the proportions and lengths for the arms when they are bending or inferfacing with perspective.
Also are there any rules to determining how furry features and stylized eyes interact with the LOOMIS lines on a face? I've Noticed animal ears sit atop the head not on the usual "Circle+Plus" thing and the snouts are a set distance up or forward so is there a trick to getting accurate facial positioning using it?
lastly so far I've mainly based my anatomy guidelines off of the guides by "Mikeymegamega" and "DrawLikeSir" but if theres anyone who is better for a beginner I would love to know. thnx in advance

>>6987406
Well if you're following basic human anatomy (i.e., you're not drawing a dragon or alien or something), you don't decide proportions so much as you follow the ones already present. For example, the deltoid and bicep together are about as long as the forearm, and the wrist is at about crotch level. Once you know those proportions, you can always draw an arm. As far as foreshortening goes, that's a bit more difficult, but you can begin to understand it if you use a graduated box to determine the perspective. Some people use the triangle trick, which I don't fully understand myself, but you can look it up and see if it helps you.

As far as animal ears go: study animal skulls and ears. All the answers you need as far as proportions and anatomy are mostly answerable by using references (which you should always be doing; only crabs or amateurs refuse to use refs).

I like the pic by the way. I'd say the only parts that stand out to be are the boobs (which just need a little less definition on the right side ((our left)) since she seems to be in an outfit), the chin (which doesn't really sell the perspective of her head; in this case I don't think it needs to be defined at all, and a bit of shading could help you understand the shape), and her lower leg (she doesn't seem to have ankles, and the shape is overall a bit stubby). I am impressed by your lines, however, which are looking pretty good for having just gotten into digital stuff. Overall cute piece, nice work.

I was using the Triangle method where you connect the joints in a triangle shape then measure each side to make sure it somewhat consistent but the perspective kinda fucked up that method. I'll try to make a mental note of what you suggested and see if it works

also are these tips universal? lets say I want to try my hand at a shortstack koblod or dwarf berserker do all the laws of body measurement still apply? even when the Midna is like 60% dumptruck and the hipbone must be breaking the laws of physics?

> I am impressed by your lines, however, which are looking pretty good for having just gotten into digital stuff.
well I use that free "Medibang" program and just redraw everything with the Mapping pen "Correction" setting at 40. It basically puts the re-tracing over-the-polygon person part on ez mode. Do you think thats bad? at first I though about not using it because its clearly a "crutch" and maybe it would negatively impact my ability to develop clean lines/shapes but then I thought it would be silly to not use ALL of the tools available to me if im going to be doing digital art only anyway. I still do my daily basic shape practice and figure eights with my whole-arm but then I also use that so I dont have to erase/redraw the same thing over and over and can expedite the work and try to analyze it.

>are these tips universal
Kind of. For anything anthropomorphic, you can follow human anatomy. For any changes, you consult the relevant anatomy. That's where study and reference come in. Once you know how a variety of creatures work and are constructed, you can combine them all together. For example, even if you know how to draw a digitigrade leg, it won't balance the same way on a biped, as on a dog. And once you understand all that shit, you can break the rules and have fun with it, like with Midna, who compared to human beings is all kinds of fucked up, because she's essentially an alien designed within her own rules of anatomy.

As for stabilization, use whatever is comfy for you to use, and produces the results you like. It's there as a tool, and personally, I find it covers the sometimes overly-sensitive nature of tablets. Drawing on physical paper kind of imposes a natural sort of stabilization through friction, and if your tablet is essentially frictionless, you won't get the same results. As far as I'm concerned the only hard and fast rule for what's not allowed is blatant plagiarism, but even tracing has a place if you're not claiming the work as your own or posting it.
