Animation graduate here, most art schools are scams. I know this from experience of my degree and from the statistics showing that holding an arts degree actually lowers your lifetime earnings. If you're male its better to have no degree at all.

I remember the last day of this sophomore poetry class (decade ago), I made a comment to the effect of, "Yeah, but why didn't any of these boomer faggots rhyme or sound lyrical? Seems like it's just words." (slight exaggeration)

Cowards. Professors can be and often are genuinely retarded. They might know a lot about a given topic that they teach but that doesn't guarantee they have self awareness and common sense. I argued with my writing professor years ago because her tumblr hair headass tried to impose her social justice interpretations of writing on people's freeform stories. I'm a homo faggot, you'd never tell by looking at me and I don't announce it. But she scolds me about writing homos the wrong way because I had a homo incidentally die off screen in my story. Some people are up their own ass even if they're smart. As long as you don't get kicked out of the class don't be a pussy bitch who just sits there and takes obvious bullshit in silence. Yeah, but also depends on the program I think. I am in art school right now for animation, and for all its faults, it's nothing like any of this post-modern stuff you see in certain fine arts schools. Probably because animation is just too specific to bullshit, at least in the way fine arts people bullshit. We actually HAVE to learn figure drawing, proper anatomy, lige drawing, and draftsmanship. Again, not like everybody is super amazing, but it's still a far cry from any of this gobbledygook you see.

But yeah, specific program and school can make a big difference.

I go to art school now, and literally everyone knows that the degree itself has no meaning. The actual goal is to improve as an artist, network, and end up with a good portfolio/demo reel at the end of it. All of which can definitely be done independently.
