What I mean is, I could imagine it doing quite well if exposed to a larger audience.
The mainstream Twitter audience loves this kind of wholesome humor, especially paired with that cute art style.

The problem with Twitter is that you highly depend on the retweets of larger art accounts to grow your own audience and reach.
I don't think it's possible to get any large-scale attention by depending on the algorithm, unfortunately.

Also, I have noticed that you follow way more accounts than you have followers yourself (620 Following and 174 Followers)
Twitter actually debuffs your reach when you have fewer followers than the amount you follow.
They probably do it to filter out low-quality posts by low-quality accounts (aka bots).

Very cute and wholesome. Your style and writing have a certain warmth to it. However, I did notice that your speech bubbles were much smaller on this page compared to the previous ones. It was a bit hard to read the text without zooming in.
I really like your cartoony art style contrasting with the realistic backgrounds (My guess is they're simply touched-up photos?). It adds a certain charm and character to it, honestly. It also makes it stand out more easily compared to the first two pages you drew.
The panels flowed well into each other, and having the characters talk while walking through the environments was quite nice, instead of having them talk while staying in one spot.

Cute girl and an adorable, bald mister. Great job, anon. Will you turn this into a series of some sort?

One of a 180+ page story that started out as storyboards that I uploaded to my website instead of the more produced newspaper sized strip that I intended to make, but it required computer time that I soon realized that I would never see in the foreseeable future. So I played the dutiful boyfriend as a gentleman should, and took a sketchbook to one of many waiting rooms that I would be spending hours being supportive in to be productive. I drew on its first page a demon head, and then tried fitting it in the World that I created. A story was born, and I went along for the ride. All of it is technically "storyboard",since my "style" is to assemble bits of drawing into comics with Photoshop, recycling stuff like backgrounds to quicken poroduction. And I want to redo it all as Photoshop Extravaganza full color Sunday newspaper sized strip that I could shop around after geting a few dozen in the can,but I have little free time to draw. Instead, I video myself drawing wild wacky shit that I often continue over 2-4 sessions. I have specialized in the Headlong Stumble school of creativity, letting stuff germinate into weird and unforseen directions, and the viewer is as surprised as I was doing it. I am debating whether or not to do a strop this way. A new story unfolding before the viewer's eyes. Hmm.

If I did,it would look like this. That's what I drew as a completely new story based on a 1 page experiment in what I could do making a full page strip "seriously". I then went straight to trying out a story by drawing on Official Comicbook Bristol Board, and soon realized that I would be layering pen on pen strokes for thousands of years on each page,so I went the Photoshop the Bits way, compensating for my weaknesses. But the previous story, despite its flaws, still is a thing that has amazed me even as I put it to paper. The story from where this page is from was something that I did just to celebrate the fact that I was over the severe depression from having to give up my website. Marijuana dropped from the sky and made me want to create again. And my local legal dispensary keeps it that way. So the plot meanders in several directions and I got bored with it, but the doing of it was profitable for me because getting anything on paper was its own education. Both are headlong plunges in storytelling, and I think I know what story I will video myself drawing...the first graphic novel, introducing them all.

A rarity. A concept comic that emerged from hearing about the NYU student newspaper was looking for comics of an underground spin. I never submitted it,which is just as well. The caps are a direct homage/ripoff of Wormy,a dragon who sported such a chapeau from Dragon Magazine comics. Here is a collection of them:

https://www.angelfire.com/wa2/haroog/archive/Archive.htm

There was a second one planned, introducing a third character, a mouse also wearing a cap and the ultimate authority on Cool,or so he thinks. He uses stoner logic to convince the cat not to eat him,and the cat agrees, such was the plot. I wasn't trying to promote homophobia here, but the one character's nose wrinkling at the flamboyance of their new "owner". I have known Super Queens from hanging out in BSDM clubs in the Meat market district by the Hudson river back in the late 80s. I wasn't into that myself, but had a couple of friends who were, and brought my sketchbooks to draw in the twilight while bare chested women were beating asses nearby like some Monty Python sketch. So Fred the Fruitcake is pretty accurate. So much for history.

>"farming wheat sucks" is redundant and "softens the blow" of the punchline at the bottom.
interesting, so you would remove the farming wheat sucks and replace the last panel?
i'd do the opposite, remove the last line at the bottom since explaining things in plain text goes against the spirit of making comics and it's also after the intended punchline making it redundant
it needed a couple more panels of the man apologizing to his boss, if we were to do things properly

>> No.6920372

>>6920216
I'd just remove that white box and keep the last panel without words.
I see what you mean with the line at the bottom being too literal, but I don't think it ruined the joke.
Obviously it's your comic and your vision, but the way I see it the joke is about setting up the expectation of him replacing his modern life with a simpler one of satisfying hard work, so you spend the entire comic building this image of him enjoying his new life and you turn it upside down at the very end by telling the viewer that he's not enjoying it at all and regrets his decision, forcing us to recontextualize everything with this new information.
If you had spelled "he regretted his decision" literally it would indeed be too literal, but by describing that he tried to get his job back you make us infer that he wants out of this life, triggering the recontextualization through deduction.

An alternative could be to remove the bottom line and add that information in the box. So instead of "farming wheat sucks" it could say "I wish my boss would give me my old job back" or something along those lines.
It would achieve the same recontextualization without being too literal about his regret.

My friend has a comic I think is pretty exceptional in multiple ways, but has gotten little traction on social media. I'm always pulling for them though, I think it's only a matter of time but I imagine it's got to be hard having inked over 400 pages by hand without getting much acknowledgement yet. Anyone have any advice?

Maybe if the close up was of the man's detailed haggard, broken despair-ridden face.

>> No.6924765

>>6924737
No it doesn't because you don't need to get the point across in the panel itself if you have the phrase at the bottom to give you the clue that recontextualizes everything.
In fact, it's best if you DON'T get the point across until the very end to maximize the misdirection and build up tension for a bigger release.

The other, imo inferior, alternative is to remove the phrase at the bottom and communicating the same concept of regret inside the last panel. This would also achieve the same "one strong punchline at the very end" effect, albeit with one fewer panel to build up from.

As it stands now the punchline is weaker because there's a half-punchline inside the panel that doesn't fully change the context (for a second between reading the panel and reading the bottom line the reader will be thrown into a moment of doubt and subconsciously think "does it suck because it's good hard work that is ultimately worth it, or is he just regretting it?"), so that when the final line hits the reader already had it hinted so it doesn't hit as hard as it would if they thought the guy was just fatigued from the hard work he wanted, and got hit with the realization that what they were seeing until a second ago was something different.

This is joke-writing 101.

You can't imagine it in your head?
I've already explained in detail the various options and how they would be implemented (all just text, I recommended no changes to the drawings).
Feel free to actually address my points instead of throwing baseless insults like a child and moving the goalpost to my drawing skills, as if those have any bearing on what I said.

Actually I'll do you a solid:
I have never drawn anything in my life and my skills are pre-beg.
Happy? Now what? Does this make my points any less true? Does this make your nonexistent counterarguments nullify what I said?
No. You're just a retard who doesn't understand that a statement doesn't become more or less truthful depending on the perceived authority of who makes it.
If you dismiss a pre-beg's opinion on the basis of their skills and later hear a master saying the same thing, what do you do?
Learn to think without committing basic fallacies.

I don't have time to waste on dummies who can't follow a basic thought process, and it's not my job to teach you how to think; and considering how we're already at the stage where you're not arguing against my points and are throwing insults and hoping you can dismiss my opinions for not posting my work (the goalpost is already beyond the horizon at this point), I have no reason to keep humoring you (already wasted way too much time on a conversation I hoped was going to be productive).
I'm leaving the thread. Keep pretending you're somehow mysteriously right without explaining how, like you've been doing. It doesn't matter.

And...
Debuting here....the First Strip in the First story of the Saga. I am videoing myself drawing every line,so you can see things that will be iconic materialize before your eyes. I am embarking on the second after I post this. I tried telling this story in regulation comic book sized pages, and arranged the story to be 20 pages of Stuff, and 4 extra fir ads, letters, extra art,and whatnot. I did two chapters of 20 pages each, and was doing the groundwork for the third, and it proved so fucking tedious to generate.

I prefer to assemble comics from scanned and Photoshopped bits of my raw art,to cope with the free time I had from my nightcrew grocery job. I was planning on telling a story serialized in newspaper sized strip format, and through recycling things like backgrounds and other picture elements I could knock out a weekly update and keep to schedule. But life intervened and I told a completely different story in sketchbooks. Now,it's this. Let the world watch its creation. It's what I am doing.

I'm working on this. Pls give advice on the panels / format. Does it read clearly? I feel like I tried to squeeze too much into the middle panel, and I'm debating whether I should add a mini panel in between or smth.

>> No.6930046

>>6929980
I think it'd read better if you had one panel for the scare, and another for the ghost's rant.
Also the ghost looks like a used tissue rather than looking like a person trying to be a ghost.
I don't think the middle panel has too much going on, but it could use some action lines, or something, to more clearly show the sheet had been stolen.
Finally on the last panel, it looks like the girl on the left shrinks a bit (after growing a bit in the second panel).

Overall I think the only real issue is the text/word balloon layout, but that's hard to judge until I actually see it finalised.
But maybe I'm being overly harsh because I'm trying to critique it - I think I'm the type of guy who can easily find problems when asked.

if you want my 2 cents on the composition I wouldn't have made the hand in the second panel so big and pointing to the bottom right, this leads you out of the page
I would've used the white guy's foot as an arrow to point the eye to the third panel

I have no clue on the context but the illustration and inanity is very soulful; there is so much energy in the characters to the point that it feels animated.

Thanks! It was for an Original Character Tournament, so the context is multiple other comics made by myself and others, some of them practically unreadable, which really hampers how shareable they are.

and i thinking to myself they had better brush eng than csp. what's theyr problem? too laggy? When importing into CSP it DOES get laggy... unless you change the brush shape (but then you lose the brush uniqueness)

a lot of people have funny ideas about “algorithms” when its really just people. think about it, if im a guy browsing thousands of posts a day on twitter. my attention span is tiny so youd need something that really catches my eye and make me check you out. its like youtube, make an short and attractive hook (the text in your tweet) and attractive thumbnail. as for discovery you can buy twitter blue (or not whatever) and start posting shit under replies of tweets whose people might be interested in what you do (or be a degen and post on any viral tweet). if one of your replies becomes the top liked people will be curious about you and check your profile. make sure your latest art is your pinned post so people see it when they check you out
