When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction
to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help.
When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

Remember:
before criticising any of my work I post, I will require this information about you
1. your full name - name and surname
2. the address of your current residence
3. the address of your workplace
4. your marital status and the name of your spouse, if any
5. your annual wage, before and after tax
6. your license plate
7. your place of birth
8. the names of your parents
9. your credit card number and the expiration date
and finally you MUST post your work.
If but one of these points is not met, or, if I am unable to find a Wikipedia page about you, that matches the information you have given, that lists you as a prominent artist in any artistic field, all your critique directed towards me or my work is invalid and actually the opposite of what you say is true and my work is perfect and devoid of any mistakes.
Also, when you do criticise my work, you can not use any word included in the following list because your post will automatically get filtered by my automatic filtering system. You must treat me like a toddler when you criticise my work or I will cry.

hey anon, I'm currently working and in grad school. I do play games, but recently I decided that I have to uninstall everything. It's crunch time right now, but I still want to draw. I had to cut out games to make that happen. Do you want to play games or do you want to get closer to making the art you want to make?

I usually let myself play on the weekends after 5, but right now it's zero. I'll reconsider again after this semester ends. Anon please - take it from me. I almost got divorced last year because I was procrastinating on work and school to cope with a bunch of shit. It's better now, but please anon. Learn from my pain. Games aren't conducive to following your goals. If you don't have self-control right now, cut it out completely. I don't care what 4chan or the rest of the internet tells you. If games are out of control, stop. It might be okay now, but one day this will be a life and death problem. Procrastination has been one of the greatest sources of pain in my life, anon.

You're going to draw today, even if it's just 5 minutes. And you're going to do it again tomorrow because we're making a promise with ourselves. You're going to keep your promises you stupid bitch. If not for yourself, keep it for me.

The second choice. I don't even enjoy the 90% of what i play its just busywork to burn time.
I'm a shut-in with no social or academic obligations so i could easily be doing 6h of art and 6h of games a day. Its not even either or i'm just a lazy slob and i could never get anything done, ever.
Anytime i sit down to it i get actively discouraged/filtered by the simplest of things.
Holding a pen and drawing also feels very unnatural for me but that's prolly because im not used to it.

>You're going to draw today, even if it's just 5 minutes.
I can start tomorrow because its 2AM and in need to get up in 6 hours. Phoneposting from the bed rn.
I'm down to do the five minutes a day thing but ive tried it before and it didnt work. I just do five minutes of "work", and fuck off.

Sorry for not responding for a few days, but thank you very much.
Just a heads up: Some of the books in your MEGA (pic related) got taken down. You might want to encrypt them (and perhaps rename the archives to something unrecognizable) before uploading, to avoid automated takedowns.

>> No.6927097

>>6927094
Thanks anon. It happens. I have it all backed up to a personal NAS. I don't know if it's automated - only happens when it's shared. I always assume there's a risk when sharing it publicly, so anything that I share is backed up locally.

>> No.6927104

>>6927097
Don't know if true (and don't care enough to verify), but I've read multiple times that MEGA calculates checksums for all the files people upload to it, so if someone else gets caught sharing the same file you have in your account, yours is getting deleted too, even if it was never shared.
If that's the case, any reupload of a file you've pirated has a significant chance of getting removed by having been shared in a Google-indexed page or something that's easy to catch and DMCA.
I've been uploading TBs of copyrighter materials of all kinds on MEGA and other such services (all encrypted with random-looking names), and never got anything taken down, even the shared files, so it sounds believable to me.

Had the same thing happening to me, both with drawing and with practicing piano. You need to invent a cope, or a lie or something that forces yourself to do it. Set a timer for 30 mins and act like if you don't draw for those 30 mins you'll idk delete half your porn folder every time, make up a voice in your head to keep track of what you're doing, fucking anything. Even asking a friend to pester you about it can work. You just gotta keep the desire to do it fresh in your head, don't grow jaded to it and start to fully ignore it. You also might have depression or adhd or some shit if you play games for 11 hours and you aren't even having fun, just doing it as busywork.

Of course sometimes you get 10 or 20 or even 100 "bad" drawings in a row and then you really feel terrible, that I haven't solved.

Also focusing on how you're improving instead of how bad you are, or how consistent you're being, how much you've drawn or even if you've drawn at all that day. Just find any silver lining.

Not a particularly elegant sketch or that interesting, but I did this in about 20 minutes or so. Used to take me hours to do something like this so I consiider this a VERY good sign.

I do want to draw more realistic stuff considering the Burne Hogarth book I was studying, but it feels nice to be able to draw something quickly (even if it looks poor) as opposed to taking an hour to draw something that looks even worse than this.

You need to learn how big certain parts are in relation to the head. For instance, if you're going for a tall beautiful character, it's usually 8 heads tall. From the chin to the bottom of the crotch it's 3 heads tall. From the bottom of the crotch to the bottom of the feet another 4.

Use this diagram to practice this.

>Anything I can read on how to encrypt?
I just use 7zip since it's easy, multiplatform, lets me split the archive in smaller parts, and when the files inside allow it, can reduce the total filesize.
If it's an already compressed file like a video, I use the "Storage" compression setting, since I'm not going to make it much smaller. If it's something that can compress well (like uncompressed files with a lot of identical content, such as WAVs with a lot of silence) I set it to Ultra.
AES-256 with encrypted filenames, and everything else on default.

It's very strong encryption but not schizo-tier. I'm only uploading copyrighted material that I'm trying to keep from being deleted, so I'm not too worried about glowies or anything. If you are, get TrueCrypt/VeraCrypt (the second is a fork of the now-abandoned former, both audited and known to be secure), make a container of the size you want, use the AES-Twofish-Serpent nested algos + Whirlpool hashing. Obviously use a long unguessable password.
You can set it to make decoy containers so if you get tortured you give them the false password and it opens to show them the files you want them to see, but if you use the correct password it opens the hidden partition with your secret files. The original TC docs explain it pretty well but the site got taken down when the developer got arrested for being an international kingpin lol.
After you've put your files inside the container, you unmount it and put it in a 7z archive so you can split it into smaller parts for convenience.
For maximum paranoia you can put your TrueCrypt container inside a VeraCrypt container (each using different sets of nested algorithms), which gets archived with WinRAR (also uses strong cryptography), and lastly zipped and split with 7zip, with each part individually encrypted with a different password, and uploaded round-robin to different sites in different non-five-eyes countries (with redundancy of course).

I also rename each part with a [01-09], [02-09], etc. so it's easier to keep track of things and makes it harder to extract files from (some sites like Google Drive and Gmail do that to scan your files, and some times don't let you upload if they can't open it lol).

I keep track of everything with a text file (CTRL+F to find stuff), in which each line looks like:
>grkrprsofooiparewhgowranhotomaitri = M021 = (Gregg Kreutz ) Problem Solving for Oil Painters - Recognizing What's Gone Wrong and How to Make it Right
>bedoketodrwiimtzzs = G008 = (Bert Dodson) Keys_to_Drawing_with_Imagination_2006
archive name = account it's on = original name
I typically use the first 2 letters of each word, with numbers replaced with the initial of their name (0123456789 = zottffssen), but if that results in something weird I change it. It doesn't reallt matter, it can be literally random, but this way it's easier to recognize things at a glance (mainly while I'm encrypting and uploading them) without having to use the index file.

When I need to do many files at the same time I use textmechanic.com (an old version I scraped before it started asking for money (sorry not sharing, too afraid of it containing info about me lol)) and Bulk Rename Utility.

This is probably one of the more useful sections for you to be studying from FWaP. Internalizing that your cartoon characters have an underlying structure allows you to give them a verisimilitude when they interact with the world and you need to understand what their non-exaggerated form is capable of before you exaggerate their motions.

That's what I do, but if the filename of the archive reveals what's inside, if MEGA decides to start scanning filenames, you risk having your files taken down. With the unintelligible archive name you have that additional layer of protection.
The TrueCrypt stuff is generally superfluous and just for the extra paranoid.

Also thanks. While Morpho is helping, I don't feel like I'm really "learning" anatomy so much as practicing drawing.

hi again, I think what I said about the curvature of the cheeks was wrong. the correct way would be it curving *below the level of the nose tip
I pulled the facial features down a bit, erased the lower eyelids (not necessary but if you want to keep them, be sure to draw the upper lids darker/bolder) and pulled the ear a bit closer to the middle of the head (the more lateral is the view of the head, the more the ear gets pushed to the middle of the head. you can also spin the ear a bit to make the jawline easier to draw
about the proportions, they're fine. in general, aim for 1.5-2 head sizes for the torso length (from chin to cunny). the head and hairline lines don't mean anything btw, I just used them as landmarks but forgot to make a new layer for it

Upload here and get shit on whatever you do.
We can critique your stuff anon, and maybe you will get something useful from time to time.
Self critique requires a critical eye which you often lack when you are absorbed with your piece, you can do several things, drop the thing and work on something else, you come back to it and notice wrong stuff quite easily.
You can also step back from the canvas or look at your work through a mirror the size difference helps notice anything out of place.
Last method you can take a small break, drink some coffee and return to your piece, it should once again help refresh your eye and make anything out of place jump out,
Now you might wonder how can you notice what is wrong and you should always keep in mind any art problem we have is either one of these parameters.
Edge.
Drawing/proportions.
Color. Hue saturation
Value.
You should reduce your piece to basic elements so not only can you spot in which dimension your mistake lies but you can also assess other people’s artworks and styles and see how they handle the same problems you face, learning from their choices

I try to practice art copying what I see, trying to looking at other art or in this case a picture I took, and trying to paint it

The values are all fucked up and unfixable - how do you even know your values are fucked up before it's way too late?
I can't even get started without values being totally wrong - even when I color pick directly from the source....

How do you paint tall grass?

Edges can be sharp, firm, soft or lost. A line is the sharpest edge you can muster in an artwork, it screams plane change, a huge break between two color shapes.
A good rule of thumb is having a shape start quite sharp then loosen it as you move further away from the plane change you want to describe.
Sometimes you might want to soften an edge just to keep the focus away from that area, by keeping things vague you can keep the viewer's attention on the focal point rather than let it wander to other less important areas.
If you want more info on the topic, check Marco Bucci's yt channel, he has a huge wealth of knowledge on the topic.

>You have long face/small head syndrome.
I see. Is there anything I should do to counteract this, or should I just keep this in mind when drawing and be more careful with my measurements and so on?

How do anti-loomis schizos cope with the fact that many incredibly skillful and successful artist cite loomis as an important resource for their own education? The answer, of course, is that they don't know this because they don't draw nor care about art at all!

How did "copy Bridgman twice" transmogrify into "copy Fun with a Pencil three times"?

The fact that they have to copy an art-book twice, tells me that they're retarded.

About time. Now keep doing this.
>i wonder what is there to learn when your figures already look this good
I only recently managed to get to this level of quality so I'd like to reinforce what I'm currently capable of, but there's still plenty to improve. Plus I'd like to get a better grip on certain landmarks, better anatomy, etc.

The more I see people apply this "copy twice" thing to other works the more I dislike it as a method.

sisters, where do I get reference for let's say just torsos, then legs etc? Do I just copy them from photoreference, or do I copy them from anatomy books, and if yes, which ones? I want to copy the torso first from every angle and turn it around. I don't want to draw it realistically but stylized
