Anyway, you are drawing on paper so let's do another thing, why don't you draw these two heads? do it, compare them and see what could be fixed, then draw them again. Even if you are not sure of why yours look worse, draw them again, you'll see the new attempt looks better already.

you don't have to. just recreate something in 3d modeling software and then trace over it.
construction techniques are just a faster form of creating things in 3d. if you can't even figure out how to construct, you have to go back to the real basics.
